How do I help my little Ginkgo?

I recently bought this baby ginkgo tree, it looks unwell. The leaves are hanging down and some are curly. I just placed it in soil, it had been in a glass of water before and it didn't get much light where it was standing. I thought maybe once in soil and in sun it'd get better but it doesn't. I've had it for about a week now.

Two leaves have tiny brown spots but those are not getting any worse luckily.

Any ideas what I can do? So far people told me either too much or too little water maybe but how do I tell which one? Do I let it dry or give more water? Something else I can do maybe?

If this is not the place to ask and anyone knows a better place for that please tell me!

Personally, I would consider asking for a replacement inappropriate if the plant was in good condition when Lix acquired it. There is something called personal accountability that would disallow most people from blaming others for something not their fault; but, before we start passing judgement, let's wait to learn a bit more of the backstory.

am i correct in understanding.. that you bought a rooted twig in water ... ??

its stressed ..

then you brought it home..and forced those water roots to turn into media roots??? ... its stressed ..

and then im not sure.. you put it in sun ... i hope not ..

leave it alone.. place in full bright shade outdoors ...and water properly ... it will lose the leaves in fall.. or maybe earlier due to extreme stress ...

its stressed.. not hungry. fert is not a reply. ..

had you .. on potting.. placed if in a baggie for a humidity tent.. you may have kept the leaves looking a bit better ... i dont know if that would help by now.. the damage is done.. i would not expect those leaves to recover and look pretty again... but as long as they are green.. they are benefiting the plants..

This is an appropriate place to ask your questions, but more info is required if you want a meaningful reply. It's unclear what you have. Is it a cutting/ seedling that was rooted when you received it? What was it doing in water? Any images of the plant while it was in water? What type of "soil" did you pot it in?

Personally I would request a replacement from whatever source you bought it from, and if this one ends up surviving then hey you got 2 trees.

Hopefully you mean a potting mix and not yard dirt?
