Garter snake care in the garden

Found several living on the property, guess coming with territory being near forest.

We do not use chemicals but I do use Sluggo spring and fall.

Do you think it is safe?

I also have done ammonia and feel better about that since substance is unstable and as long as I am careful to warn snakes to leave it should be safe....

I do know I have some slugs but population seems to be on low side.

Or I should just leave it up to snakes and see what happens?

Anyone has any insight how to coexist and have happy hostas?
