Defining a dining space

I just purchased my first home. Before purchasing any furniture I wanted to live in the space a bit. My dining area has me all kinds of confused. My house is small and perfect for me. It’s OPEN! KItchen, living, & dining all in one room not a divider in sight. When I think about the location of the dining table I feel confined to the little space. Could I not bring things out a little and go in front of maybe one of the doors? I hope I’m making sense. I also want to add some type of island there to create some type of separation.

Swag the chandelier where you want it...easy fix.

A round table centered under the chandelier. Since your opening door is on the left, it’s probably ok if the table and chairs are partially in front of the right hand door. Put your trash can under the sink - no one wants to eat by the garbage!

P.s. I don't know your layout but leave room for foot traffic around the rug for moving around the house. It will feel more cocooning without people having to tromp across it!

If you go with a smaller table, reduce the size of the chandelier as well. It should e 3/4 as wide as the table top. If your ceilings are 8' it should hang 30" above the table. If 9' then 33" above it.

If you decide you want to move your table over you can have the chandelier moved. I can't tell you how difficult it would be to move it because that depends on a couple things, but if it continues to bug you, look into it. I don't know how many people you want to be able to seat and how often you will be using that door, so I don't know if you really need to move it. If you live alone, get a small table with a leaf so you can make it bigger when you have company. The spare chairs can be kept in a different room. As Trace said, the kitchen could definitely use a freestanding island.

Your dining does not have to be confined to the location of the current chandelier. It won't cost much for an electrician to move that to the left.

However, with that window right there a banquette might be something to ponder.

Dining banquette might be a game changer! The stupid chandelier is annoying me. It has to be moved.

It looks like you might be able to easily do a round table, like the ones we have included from our portfolio below. If you want to define the space more, you might consider adding a rug under the dining room table.

I agree with advice on the table and you asked about a separation as there is alot of wasted kitchen space. There are many moveable islands or it can be easily built with a base cabinet and heavy duty casters, or just some great turned legs so off the floor. You can use 2-3 wall cabinets (9" deep) back to back and add a base and feet, or a regular base cabinet. Add a butcherblock countertop or slab of granite, marble, etc. I'd look up islands in Houzz for lots of ideas, but I've found attractive ones at HomeGoods and Wayfair too. https://www.houzz.com/photos/query/small-movable-kitchen-islands/nqrwns

I would go with a banquette in the corner. Whatever you decide, please do not swag a chandelier. Pay an electrician to move it to your preferred location.
