Help me paint my front door?

My husband and I have been finishing our cottage for three years and I'm suffering from decision burnout, now that we're a couple of months from moving in. (Well, also financial burnout, physical burnout, emotional burnout...you get the picture.)

So I thought I'd you-all for opinions on painting the front door?

It's a waterfront Maine cottage, nothing schmancy about it, and ideally, it would look like it's been that color for years.

Thanks!

I would select a bright, happy color that will make you grin each time you approach your home. Perhaps orange or purple or red or fuschia or yellow or who knows what. No one but you knows what will make you tingle with anticipation as you approach home. But do not be afraid of color. This is the time for the lion to roar!

I got rid of a boyfriend once because his favorite ice cream was vanilla! My husband likes butter pecan. There's more to life than white.

ooooh Carolyn, I love Butter Pecan ;) but I would paint the door Navy.

My first two choice were navy or royal blue or a shade of red with blue undertones in it. That would tie in nicely being in Maine, something to make it 'pop' and say "welcome to your cottage".

Orange or an orange/yellow. Fresh and yummy with the colour of the remainder of the cottage, and just a little unconventional.

This house is asking for a couple of Adirondak chairs facing the water painted the same Newburyport blue ;)

Hi noreaster! I'm just in from a Maine vaca and another week at my beach house in SE Mass, so I'm especially loving this question. Your home is beautiful and the view stunning. I'd consider what color will look best inside your home when that front door is open to the many guests who will be eager to visit you. My summer place has white trim and timeworn shingles, and it has had the teal grey at second to the right for twenty-five years now and I still love it. (My year-round house also has the door knocker at second to right in a rusted patina.)

Thank you so much, everyone! I'm in the blue camp myself, but my husband didn't like the cornflower blue I painted the door to the garage, but maybe he'll go for that darker blue or a gray-blue.

Colors are tricky up here because we're so far north...everything turns a cooler tone and I've been fooled more than once!

Again, thank you. After three years of tiling, flooring, painting, building cabinets, insulating, etc. etc. etc...I've gone sort of slap-happy on this project and tend to say thing like, "I...just...don't...care." Dangerous!

Of all the doors I saw in Maine last year when I was there, my favorite was orange!

Red doors are my favourite on and in any home. They are inviting cheery and bring luck and happiness.
