Go to your local nursery (not HD or Lowe's) they can recommend plants

Lovely house; I would start by removing the hanging baskets. They just block and darken the house. Find a rug with some pops of color that works with your house, and put a little seating area on the porch. Pull one of the bright rug colors onto the front door. Low plants along the front of the porch to keep the porch open and bright.

Doug beat me to it, curved beds really help break up the squareness of everything, and make the sidewalk part of the landscape. The ferns are not making anything look dark btw.

ONE thing I would suggest as part of the house, ok 2, paint the front door a more bright color and remove the shutters from that big window.

Re-do the beds to incorporate curves. Then take a photo of the house and another one of Doug's ideas to your local nursery. Ask them to suggest similar looking/performing plants that will do well in GA. You can hire the work done, or you can install their suggestions yourself over time and a couple of seasons.
