I have a hard time believing the shutter color is the problem. I’m in the very very very hot state of Texas, and even in west facing full sun, during summers of weeks or months of triple digits, I’ve never heard of or seen this happening. I’d get some other local opinions.

You have a fine brick home but I’m not impressed with the big-box-store shutters. Are they vinyl or plastic? Are the screws plastic?

Are the shutters attached so that wind can get behind and therefore the wind bounces the shutters to-and-fro till the screws pop off?

I feel your home deserves real wood shutters with shutter dogs. Shutters that look large enough and substantial enough to actually cover/protect your windows.

So, it is the screw covers that are popping off, right?

Switch to plastic screws, the kind that don't use a cover.

Shutter Fasteners

Thank you for the clarifying question :). I am in no way handy so my vocabulary may not be very accurate! The shutter fasteners that came with the shutters are separating - the top flat part is popping off/breaking off from the screw body. Then the screw is left inside the hole and the head is broken off.

Do the fasteners have two parts? A screw and a separate cover? Or are they one piece?

If one piece, then you probably have the fasteners that I linked to. If so, replace them but don't snug them up super tight. I would also unpackage them and leave them outdoors for a few hours before installing. (IOW's, don't take them from a cool house and install them when the sun is blazing.)

I stand with those saying it's not the black color but the screw quality. Never heard of such a thing.

Maybe the threading of the hole and screws is off.
