I don’t know lighting well enough to know which fixtures will coordinate OR provide the light Iam after….ambiance is what I want for the conversation room, no real tasks are done in there, so I am leaning towards a single light fixture mounted closer to the ceiling, it does need to provide enough light so multiple bulbs is ideal I think. Because there are windows all around I don’t want anything to hang low and obstruct sight lines, anyone with experience please share your thoughts on that.
Over the breakfast nook table, there are no can lights so while I love many single pendants and want that full look or a drum or cone, I need multiple bulbs to provide enough light there. That’s my thought anyway, tasks and projects are done there. Over the sink would be chosen last to work well with the other two fixtures. I am moving away from a modern farmhouse look. I do have a shiplap accent wall within the home and in powder room but the matte black all over can feel too harsh and is missing warmth to me.
Here is a fixture I am drawn to for the conversation area…but not sure what would coordinate over the table. For reference, that room is roughly 10ft by 12 ft, has no other light source outside the cab over fireplace and the tabletop globe. My coffee table is 30” and this fixture is 36”.

For now, we will keep junction box as is, so require chain or cord…

Yes, I would do recessed, and on a dimmer. and add a floor and possible and table lamp, much better to have options. and you could highlight the gallery wall this way.

Ok sounds good. Our contractor thought it could be nice to do a wall washing recess light to highlight the photo wall, is that a good idea? Should I be concerned with the pattern created by adding something like that? He said it would be placed closer to the wall then the other 4 recess lights.

And does adding recess lighting on dimmers seems overall the better choice over adding a room centered junction box with fixture? I want the feeling of a room where you tell your secrets😁

If you want it more cozy than do the over head light, it will be a little warmer in the space.

I do want more cozy. Another related question is…in the front room of this house is our tv area, also no overhead light yet. Would it be weird if that room had recess lighting but this room doesn’t? I really want a cohesive lighting plan. That being said, we do use the rooms differently. So maybe having recess in one room and not another is ok based on personal needs?

If you doing a whole first floor lighting plan, I need to see the floor plan, and if you go that far as to add recessed you should really move that box over the dining table at the same time.

We hesitate to relocate junction box because we want to push that breakfast nook wall back and add a pantry a bay window sometime down the road. Who know if it will happen but then the fixture would have to be moved again🤷‍♀️

Then maybe put a flush mount non descript there for now. I think the artwork there is almost enough for that small area.

no I ran across that while in search, thought it could be an interesting option to focus a light on the art over the dining table, but at the same time that would limit light for that general area, so i rejected that plan lol.
