We got rain too, first time since late May. Maybe just about 1/2” , but rain changes the entire atmosphere, you can feel the relief in the air! We are having a light sprinkling this morning, hope you get more, too!

Clouds, will it or wont it rain? I should probably watet the pots and new plantings.

Just no flooding please

They were "over hyping" this rain system on the TV for days - almost hysterical announcers telling people there would be flooding, deaths, etc. (where do they get these people?). Anyway, over hyping usually means that practically nothing will happen. So, our irrigation was set to go on the night before, so I left it on on the premise that that would make it rain. It worked!

When they say storm of the century it is ususlly a dud.

Yes - the announcers acted as if one normal sort of storm would be life threatening - sigh.

I wish that storm had dipped just a little bit further south...missed us altogether. Not even a drop. :-(

Oh, so sorry Deborah - I know how disappointing that is. Not a drop here today either - it was a fast moving storm.

We were supposed to receive about .33" but the system stalled and the weather reported this area has picked up nearly 2" with the possibility of another half inch before it moves on! Thankfully this city was built with catch basins to collect the rain runoff to help recharge the aquifer.

We had a good rain a couple of days ago, perhaps 2cm in our area, instantly absorbed by the dry ground. I hope it rained more higher up in the mountains--a friend who lives in that direction reported storms in the afternoon before it began raining here--and fed the reservoir, which is just about dry. The rain we've gotten in the past two months, though not enough evidently to recharge the aquifers, has kept the plants watered, so that the ones that survived the summer are now doing reasonably well. Some are thriving: I was checking out the old part of the big garden, and discovered that the Buddleia alternifolia that has sat still for a good decade, finally has launched into growth, while its neighboring shrubs were also hearty. I'm full of plans for the garden, stymied and stifled by two realities: one, the still-dry ground, the other, the limitations of my own strength and energy. Still, it's good to dream. I hope that bart bart also got rain.

Forecast is for more rain this coming weekend. I hope so, and for the likewise predicted falling temperatures. It's still quite warm during the day, and miserably buggy.

I hope all of you, especially the people who got no rain so far, get some. We had 0 yesterday, but last night it rained again, (woke me up it was so loud - a lovely reason to wake up at 3AM!) and the newspaper wrapping still had water droplets all over it when I just picked it up. 😁

I was feeling passed-over until Livermore got its own personal drenching yesterday. We only had a third of an inch until around 4 p.m. when, in just 10-15 minutes, we got another third of an inch, for a total of 0.67 for the storm. There was a red dot centered over Livermore on the doppler radar that came out of nowhere (thunderstorm activity) and no other rainfall for miles around. Haven't seen such intense rainfall since living back in New York and Massachusetts, where rain like that was, at times, common, practically every day, during the summer.
