Yes, in my previous house I did one of the frameless shower barn doors on glass tile. The glass tile was from Oceanside Glass Tile and they have good quality tile. No cracking in the 5 years that my teenage son used that bathroom.

The other was a standard frameless door on glass arabesque tile by Raffi, sold by Walker Zanger.

I used quite a bit of glass tile in that house, but I had an excellent tile guy.

We did have an issue in one location with the Raffi tile. One of the shower fixture pipes needed to go right through the middle of one tile, so he had to bore a perfect hole through it. I had plenty of extra tile, so he took 4 with him to work on at home. He broke 3 and got it right on the 4th with a perfect hole right through the middle.

Our glass/mirror guys had no issues installing on the glass tile and no tiles were cracked during installation on in the years after.

Best results happen with good tradespeople and good materials!

I have it on glass tile. Walker Zanger. Bad picture, but you can see where they drilled.

if you have it on a very thin mosaic-like tile, then it will prob crack. But, if they have the proper drill bit and do it correctly, it should be ok.

Thank you, Beth. I love your green shower. My glass tile is by Sonoma Tile, 6 x 12, it is supposed to be a good quality tile. Because this is a home a couple of hours from me, I wasn't there when they did the curb and found they made it out of glass. It looks beautiful, but it wasn't supposed to be glass. The glass guy said he is 100% sure it will crack, both on the curb and the walls.

I wonder about this particular glass guy's capability, but he is the one the contractor brought in.

you can always get a second opinion by someone else . call around.

Also, call sonoma and ask them if this tile can be drilled.

Notice that the tile guy was able to make holes in the glass tiles to fit the pipes! Are all those tiles cracked or going to crack!

Worst case, your GC needs to have the tile guy and glass guy work together. Tile guy could replace a few tiles with pre-drilled ones to match the hinge locations. It isn't brain surgery!

I hate to say this but no way would I ever put up with cracked tile in a shower . I have done many installs with glass tile that needed to be drilled for all kinds of things and no cracked tile but my glass guy and tile guy have worked together for years and both understand the need for really good tools and well cared for .New drill bits made for glass are a must and a new saw for cuttin glass tile

Install some Squirrels on a strip of color matched solid surface, silicone that to the tile, and attach the hinges to the Squirrels. Can't crack the tile ever.

@chispa and @Patricia Colwell Consulting actually there is a cracked tile where the tile guy made the hole and it will be replaced. The GC is meeting with my husband and the glass guy Friday. I'm going to buy the glass guy a diamond drill bit if he doesn't already have one and a new saw : )
