An Impatiens species. Perhaps I. pallida.

carol23 seems right -- yellow jewelweed. The jewelweeds around me have orange flowers. They are favorites w/hummingbirds.

Thank you, carol23 and bengz6westmd! I would never have guessed impatiens since the leaves are so different.

If you look at the texture of the leaves and stems you’ll see the similarity. They are almost succulent and the stems have a glassy character.

Many people are only used to seeing the bedding Impatiens they sell at garden centers and in catalogs, that have the flat flowers, wallerana and New Guinea Impatiens, but most of the other species worldwide have tubular flowers, and there are perennial, tuberosus species and species that grow from a thick caudex. All are adapted to there environments.

If you roll a completely mature impatien seed between your fingers, they will "pop" open and spray seeds. Thus, "touch me nots".

I've had good luck growing the orange Jewelweed, capensis, but more difficulty with pallida, and sometimes I've tried collecting pallida seeds only to discover that all the seed pods had already exploded. That's how they are able to get around so fast. I think Herb Robert ejects it's seeds in a similar fashion.

It looks like the stems with tiny buds or seeds might be enchanter’s nightshade.

The seed pods for your impatiens are below and very slightly to the left of the center flower. There are more mature seeds in Jay’s photos of I. pallida.

You have to keep an eye on the plants and catch them right before the seedpods explode. I think the other plants with long, flowered stems are Jumpseed, Persicaria virginiana. I should go check for seeds on the Impatiens pallida around here. They are rare in my , but the Orange Jewelweed is everywhere.
