And to answer your question, the Sunset Western Garden book (the ONLY reference you should consider if in CA) indicates that with sufficiently acidic soils, Southern highbush and rabbit-eye blueberries should do well in SoCal but will bear fruit in late spring, not mid to late summer. NHB will not tolerate that sort of consistent heat.
