Are light white oak wire brushed floors hard to keep clean?

We too want to lighten up our main living areas (open great room) by putting in lighter hardwood. Everything seems wire-brushed right now. I see those grooves and just wonder how much dirt is going to be stuck in them. We are looking at a light-stained white oak. Would love to hear other people's experience of wire brushing and light floors. (Picture just as a sample of what we are looking at). (Note: our space is only about 650 sq ft, with kitchen, DR, LR open to each other. We have 8 ft ceilings aimed west, and overhang over south facing sliders, so the room is not that light. In fact, it looks dark in the am when you want it to be light). Thus, the desire for light floors.

Thank you both. We are in Oregon. I am looking at specialty wood flooring companies with a showroom, not big box or LL. These are not cheap floors, some are 3/4". 'Rustic' is very in here where we are. They are telling me they cannot do similar finishes in the finish in place floor.

I don't personally care for wire brushed floors;, the idea seems that it will be harder to clean.

If all you are seeing is wire-brushed, you need to think about unfinished wood and having it finished exactly the way you want it. However, I think you can find pre-finished white oak; you may have to go to a different store (big box stores carry what sells in volume to contractors; smaller shops will have a greater variety since they are more likely to order for your project).

Yes, they are harder to maintain. My personal opinion is that they are unattractive. I see the wire-brushed engineered wood floors most frequently in mass tract housing, but that may be regional.

Since you are in Oregon, you might look at Zena Forest Flooring. I just found them with a quick web search, and the floors look beautiful. I don't work for them and have never heard of them until a few minutes ago.

With that said, they might be able to do something for you. I have a gut feeling, though, that they are expensive.

Rustic is not limited to wire-brushed.

Just to finish this post out. We scrapped engineered and went with 3/4" quarter sawn, finished on site with Pallman Magic Oil. They are gorgeous. Thanks for the comments.
