I’d go with the solid on right. The other would make it way too busy.

I agree with a solid color - your countertops have a lot going on. But I'd use a larger square or rectangular tile, something that won't fight the counter top for attention.

Both are lovely, I'd recommend the plain white tile. I really love the circular tile-it's very cool- however with your gorgeous yet visually commanding countertop, the pattern seems over bearing. Perhpas use the circular tile at a coffee bar or wet bar? What color are you using for grout?

I like the solid white tile with your gorgeous countertops.

What is the name of that beautiful granite?

    vjs12,,,,looks like Alaska White granite

the elongated picket laid out in that orientation (up and down) Will look great!

The other tile is too busy for that granite

(Wait, is this just accent behind the stove ???

The white tiles...choose a darker grout to show the pattern.

    @vjs12 it’s called Orion. Thanks

To Beth H. We can’t actually find what we like. We both lean towards solid backsplash piece but we spent so much money already on this project we can’t afford the price of the granite, marble or quartz for a backsplash. These 2 that I posted were the only caught our attention so far.

We also have in mind to see if we will be able to find maybe large tile and go with the smaller grout same color to blur the look into solid like piece. I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s too complicated for me!

No, it’s not the accent behind the stove.

I was even thinking to hire designer to show us options 🤔. I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️

Zoriana, I can help you narrow down a splash if you like. lets see the whole space.

Looks like it's a bit on the modern side?

You could go w/a glass tile (not this one. remember, white glass looks minty green once on the wall)

Also, it's perfectly fine to wait a bit. I actually waited one year before I did my backsplash. (my problem is that I know of too many options and couldn't decide )

I can give you some other options from bedrosians that you might like. order some samples

Sounds good! Yes it’s a modern style!

Beth: then I don’t want white glass!
I’m looking for clean, simple & peaceful look! And I don’t like classic subway tile.

You could go w/a glass tile

maybe a glass tile in a larger size but laid in a stack style? this is alaska white granite w/a finger tile backsplash

I kind of like these tiles for your modern look

these are the KitKat in white gloss. (comes in all colors)

But check out these in Dolomite. I think I'd get a sample and see how these look

    https://www.flooranddecor.com/marble-decoratives/dolomite-honed-stacked-marble-mosaic-100964162.html

if you did a regular tile size in the glass, it would look like this in a stack layout

I don't like the offset w/this tile and modern style. you could also do a vertical stack

if you did a thinner, longer tile, it would look more modern

you could go w/a darker color..

or, you could go w/this look

    back painted glass panel?

any color, or size panel can be done

can you show me the whole space?

This is how it looks from family room

how about a black kit kat?

    comes in a matte porcelain.

    I like that contrast

or, something in a lighter gray

    plain white gloss, vertical stack

what color are you painting the walls?

I'd get a sample of the Dolomite marble finger tile (from floor/decor) and get a sample of this matte black, or the glassy black. Do it w/a white grout

(Houzz also sells the finger tiles)

you said you do NOT want white glass or any glass?

Wow! I did not consider black. I don’t want the kitchen to look smaller. My husband like the look

My point was based on your response that white glass look minty green and I don’t want any of green shade

    last modified: 4 years ago

it's not going to look smaller w/a black tile. you'd use a white or light gray grout.

(you have a smaller kitchen to begin with. just make sure you have the correct lighting. 4000K bulbs for the best light. you don't want anything below 3500K temp bulbs because it gives off yellow hues.

paint the walls a crisp white if going w/the darker tile

here's one idea w/two diff pendants

or you could do a rattan pendant in black to work w/the black tile

Bedrosians Makoto tile in black is also a good choice

White glass tile tends to look minty. it's just because of the iron in the glass. if you want white, go w/a porcelain or ceramic.

do you like any of the tile ideas?

If you want to play it safe, go w/the white picket tile in your original choice. Or, the dolomite tile in that link I gave you.

if you want a bit more contrast and drama, go w/the black kit kat

We already picked the light up, unfortunately too busy to install it 🫣

I am planning to visit Floor and Decor sometime this week to see if I like anything from them.

    Many thanks for your suggestions!

One more question to you: what do you think about large tiles in this place(12x36 or so to create solid piece look)? Look at these, they all 12x36

    last modified: 4 years ago

    NO!

    absolutely NO. lol

(mainly becuase there are better options. but mostly because these larger tiles will all have to be cut. you have about 18" from countertop to underside? so that's one full tile plus 1/2 of another?? That's going to look awful.

If you had a solid white countertop I could see doing an XL tile that you could cut in one piece. ie, using a 24X48 tile. But with the granite you have I don't think these large tiles will look good.)

Stick with the examples I've given you

BTW, if you like that 3D look, then get a sample of the Nabi tile in the Harlequin

comes in this Gunmetal color too which I think would look so good w/your granite

    https://www.tilebar.com/nabi-harlequin-gunmetal-ceramic-tile.html

    Nabi-Jewel

Tilebar has these. 5 samples for $5. (I actually have a few of these samples. the tile is very pretty)

Wayfair and HomeDepot carry it under IvyHill-Delphi.

    they have this style too

another type of 3d look tile

if you want to bring in some metal w/the tile:

@Beth, we finally found a shade that goes very well with countertops. Now have to work on shape of the tile. Would you recommend matte finish? The one on pic is but how easy would it be to clean on the kitchen? Read one review that these show water stains and it’s hard to get rid of it later, this might also be a part of water quality concern as to what I understand. Also do u have any pic with these 2x2 tiles as a backsplash? Hard to imagine.

You should being home some darker tiles. I think @Beth H’s examples with deeper tones are very flattering with the granite.

Textured or small tiles will create a very busy backsplash that will compete with your gorgeous stone. The countertop is the star of the room and the backsplash tiles are the chorus. Don’t get too complicated with textures - or small tiles that have a lot of grout lines.

Our granite is alaskan white and we used white subway tile for the backsplash. i know you said you didn’t white subway tile, but if you chose a ”busy” looking backsplash - they both kind of compete with each other for attention, in my opinion.

@bkind37 is showing you a real kitchen, with a similar granite, that has a simple, plain backsplash. And it looks perfect.

@Beth H. : i like pretty much all suggestions you made recently (taupe), ive never thought it will be this hard to choose. I still remember i can wait till i find the ONE. Well until then ill keep looking.

ill add pic to this popst what a designer from a store suggesting for us (unfortunately can't add from my computer)

@Beth H. : the one 2x2 i posted made by Emser Tile. Its not the best shape i know, but was the only one of the colors they had in store (Floorz). We aren't into this style at all. I like the pencil ones so far the most.

We are planning to go with solid color (to those who think we consider marble look or similar) but not the dark.

So far as i mentioned taupe looks the best. We have few more stores to visit before finalizing our desiciton.

Beth H. : i wish you could be my designer with whom i can go locally to choose backsplash. But we are where we are. Thanks for all of your suggestings!

I think all but the pinkish one look nice. You're doing fine!

Remember to assess backsplash tile vertically. The light hits it differently.

Yup, we all wish @Beth H lived near us!

@Beth H where can I find back painted glass? Want to see if it possible to preorder one peace

you mean glass tiles? or a giant one piece? (the latter needs to be from a special company)

if you want regular subway tiles, 'most' of them have a coating on the back.

Tilebar has some samples you can order. 5 for $5

    https://www.tilebar.com/collection/glass-tiles.html

    https://oasistile.com/collections/subway-glass-tiles

Floor and Decor also has some tile you can see.

Giant one piece, you have suggested in this post, not sure why I missed that, unfortunately we are still on the market for a backsplash. Re-reading the whole post again 😆

    last modified: 3 years ago

you'll have to google it for someone in your area. they come and measure and then cut the glass to your specs.

they back paint it w/a special paint that adheres to glass.

more of modern type of look though.

lets see some updated pics of the space again

Sure. Is it pretty durable? I just started my research and one company mentioned it’s extremely durable and easy to clean! Have you seen these in any kitchen personally?

Well yeah I can trust it now, I thought high gloss cabinets would be a pain in …. to keep them clean, NOt at all! It’s been few months since we had ours installed and I haven’t cleaned them once!

do you have a new updated picture?

Here's a charcoal glass tile in a 3x9 size from wayfair. the color would look good w/the granite and cabinets

You could do a stacked glass tile:

    or something like this:

This would look cool w/your granite:
