No, it shouldnt cause a problem to your foundation. Removing the root could though, if it is already starting to damage that foundation. Something is going on if you have noticed settling in that area. Best to get it all done quickly, so no further damage occurs.

Need to have somebody qualified view the situation in person. The entire situation, with not just focusing on the tree.

yes i have had a foundation company and structural engineer view my home where rhe settling has occurred. they recommended mitigation (underpinning in that area) i live in houston,tx where the soil is bad. i have also had an arborist veiw the tree as well and stated the water oak soaks up alot of moisture and the tree was possibly dying. the root growing towards the home is on the top soil.

full removal of the tree will NOT involve removal of all the roots ...

and i doubt if a tree guy will mess around with one going under your house. ...

so .. you are back to the foundation guy ....

and i doubt engineers will know much of anything about the tree ...

remove the tree and get your foundation fixed.. no time to hem and haw here .. it HAS TO BE DONE ... your house is most likely your greatest asset.. and must be protected ...

I agree, I’ve gotten a couple quotes on the removal as well as a stump grind if full tree removal is not beneficial for my home
