I agree with you about not getting a white sofa, and I like the color you got instead. Lyn is right, the area rug should be next. The color of the sofa is very close to the wall color, so also start looking for some wall art to go behind it, and throw pillows once you get a rug. If this is a new house you probably don't want to repaint.

Hi. Pretty sectional. First thing to do is to create a floor plan. I know, sounds boring, but you don't want to make purchases you later regret.

So, either create a floor plan on paper or at least get the sectional situated where you want it. Then measure for any chairs that will go in the space.

Would you mind sharing info on the sectional? It’s pretty!

If you post a to scale floor plan with doorways and windows indicated, you will get fantastic help and ideas. We need to k ow the size of the room, what the adjacent spaces look like and some of your favorite colors. Is the house traditional? Modern? What do you love?

There are several pros who are amazing at furniture layouts and spaces. More info from you and you will get a ton of help. I agree that a rug is first, but we aren’t sure what size you need. 8x10? 9x12?

Throw pillows to go with your rug.

Without seeing anything else, my suggestion would be to add color. Gray is a fabulous background neutral, but color would add life to your room.

I looked at your saved photos, and you seem to like bright blues - you can choose where and how much. What you have for flooring, kitchen cabinets, etc.... matters, and you can show more photos if you want.

I have those exact same glass pendant shades. What's wrong with matching your ideabook? Looks good to me. Gray/black/aqua. Nice.

We can't work out ideas for the space going on a photo of a sectional against a stair wall, and one looking into the kitchen. Please take photos of the rest of the room from all sides and include all windows, doors, ceiling, stairwell, floors, walls, etc. Do that first.

If you are going to keep the sofa, let color get in. A geometical pattern rug, one accent chair to create contrast. Some metal art form in the walls. Try a Shell Chair to bring some wood feeling.

The next step, once you have a floor plan is to take your ideabook and hone down to 1 or 2 photos that you love. Based upon what I see in your ideabook, you like a more contemporary, neutral palette with a pop of pink or blue (very small amount), with a touch of glam.

You will receive all sorts of suggestions here. They are not necessarily what YOU like. Following the correct steps in the correct order is vital to a successful outcome and not wasting $ on purchases that don't work.

Good to hear you are going to work on a floor plan, as it will drive so many decisions, especially regarding sizes.

Decor wise, art can drive many decisions. Be sure to find an inspiration room that really speaks to you, before you start purchasing, and be sure rug/cushions/art don’t compete for attention.
