A different installer did the dark tile? One looks great, the other one far from it...sorry.

The grout lines are too small for that large format tile. Against industry standards. Plus, it was set 50/50, which is also against industry standards. If infustry standards for wider grout and 1/3 offset were followed, you wouldn’t have an issue.

Tile box says 1/16” grout is okay. also says to lay in 1/3 brick. tile installer amd gc never mentioned a thing.

It's not terrible -- and the black tiles look great -- but I would be bothered by some of the obvious lippage elsewhere, too. The main problem I see is not the size of the grout lines. And, while it would look a bit better with 1/3 offset, the main problem is that larger format tiles like that will often have some degree of lippage unless they are checked before installation to insure that they are dead flat; those obviously aren't. Also, typical overhead lighting, like most of us have, tends to emphasize the shadows from the lippage. At this point you really only have two choices: live with it (as it will probably bug you less over time), or have all the lighter tiles removed and replaced with something you are sure is flat. I'm not sure the second option is worth the hassle.

The TCNA has standards for PLANE and lippage. Most GCs dont know this stuff, nor do their halfprice tile hacks they hire, usually this is reflected in the projects time frame and pricing..

Does your Renovation contract state anything about complying to current tile industry standards? TCNA? CTI? NTCA? ANSI? or........IRC? UPC?

Id love to see the waterproofing and the flood testing process prior to tile? plumbing inspections?

In regards to the offset? your contract should also state all MFG instructions shall be followed and met.
