help me transform my dining room!

The wooden arches have to go, but not sure what to replace them with. I’m thinking an industrial curtain rod with linen curtains hanging on the left side of the window.
Just not sure if I should replace the table, and keep the cabinet or get rid of it. Without it, it’s a big open space.

I like the new proposed table, but I also like the style and utility of the hutch. Will both the hutch and the new table fit in your space? How does the new table compare to your old table, size wise?

I’d prefer a cleaner look for window treatment that would not eat up wall space or clutter up the corner. The blinds in place go well with the space. I’d mount a tailored fabric valance at ceiling crown height that is long enought to cover top of window & wide enough to end just outside molding at each side of window. that treatment will soften the window, warm up the room & add some color & texture. Fabric should complement whatever is in the other side of room across the hallway opening. The table you’re looking at is so similar to what you have except black. Your white table looks better with what I can see of kitchen cabs. Agree on changing out the wall art. A large canvas art to span the space would be great - add lots of interest. A rolling landscape maybe?

Ours, offered as an alternative idea. Perhaps would fit below your window and into the corner. The bench seat cushions hinge and lift to provide storage.

I love all of these ideas! My cabinets are white and match the bottom of our current table. I do like the hutch, I just wasn’t sure of myself. I didn’t even look at the measurements of the table I liked. Just throwing ideas. We’ve recently made some changes to my living room and I’d love if I could get my dining room to flow with it since it’s all open. I feel like I need some kind of contrast or pop in the dining room.

@Sara Your LR is pretty & 'restful' in tone / color. Your current DR already flows with it color wise. You have heard - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? :-) If you do want more pop or color in DR, do change out the wall decor for a big piece of art. Maybe look at adding a window treatment at top of window - a box pleat fabric valance....

KW, thank you for that! It may not be a big change but something needs to change. I can’t put my finger on it lol

I think the LR is lovely, serene and transitional. The DR is farmhouse. I would remove the farmhouse sign and the wood arches. Replace with art. Eventually the table can be replaced with one that is oval. Table like this but not these chairs (they would be too much for your space)

Andrew- I don’t know if any apps. If anyone has any please recommend.

YES! I love that table! But what kind of chairs would look good with that?
Will remove the arches and farmhouse sign for sure 😍

Feel free to suggest some bar stools too.

Here’s another view of my living room if that helps at all.

I’m kind of thinking about a board and batten wall 🤔

What? Mixed with the shiplap on FP wall & crown all around? My vote is no. Just change the DR wall look with a Great & large art. Take the green stuff off the china cab top, Take the farmhouse sign down & have a fabric valance that coordinates with LR drapes made for the window.. Maybe new wood chairs all around for table.

Do you have an inspirational picture of a valance? Valence screams 80’s to me, but maybe there’s something I’m missing.
Agreed on the farmhouse sign, art, new chairs, remove greenery from China cabinet! Thank you.
I’ll reconsider the board and batten. Here’s a pic of what I was picturing but probably white.

@Sara I reread my remark on B&B after looking at your inspo pic. It might look like a nice add of interest to dining area wall since shiplap is only behind TV so do pursue that if you really like it. I don’t have inspo pics for valance & agree they could look dated but not always depending on fabric & style. Here’s pics of what I did with 9’ ceilings & tall windows. I wanted to soften windows but not cover them with more than the wide routless (no string holes) blinds. I had these 24" long box pleated & lined valances made. The 4 vintage side chairs at table also have seats upholstered with this fabric.

Helps a lot! I’ll check those out. Thank you Andrew

I think the hutch is too big and bulky there. I’d look for something vintage and smaller.

    A few ideas:

Black chairs, barstools that tie in with your decor better, art, vintage china/curio cabinet, window treatments — Roman shade, one panel, or cafe curtains on French return rod:

Doesn’t have to be these specific items, just showing a look. One or two pieces of art would look fine … and more colorful pieces would look great, too. Look for art that makes you happy, it doesn’t have to match things unless you prefer a more monochromatic look.

If you ever think about a rug, I’d go with something textured and woven:

Goals for the room: bring some charm and warmth in, some texture via textiles, some curves, and more of a collected look.

I wouldn’t go with anything MCM or too contemporary.

Thank you Jinx! Do you think keeping the current table and switching to black chairs would be ok? I had a hard time finding bar stools. I have 2 young kids and am a little afraid of white fabric in the kitchen.

Also love the curtains, but with the door being so close to the window I’m not sure if I’d have to just put the curtains on one side or if that would look silly.

What size art would go well? I don’t think a gallery style since that is what I have in my living room.
