It's a leafhopper. Many leafhoppers are named for their favorite leaves, as in the Rose Leafhopper and the Western Potato Leafhopper.

If you have tons of them, I'd worry, but if you see one or two and don't notice much damage, then I wouldn't worry about it.

It looks like a katydid to me. Most leafhoppers a fairly small, but katydids will be larger than an inch

This one was a little under 2 inches I would say. I think you are right --
