PLASTIC PLINTH SEALS FOR KITCHEN CABINETS

Just had a new. bespoke Shaker-style kitchen put in and it has plastic plinth seals that were never mentioned before and I wasn't expecting. Compared to kitchen, they look naff and cheap, although I can appreciate they add protection. Are these the new normal? Bit hard to show on photos, but interested to get your thoughts!

You're going to be down on your knees staring at the thoughtfulness to include something that protects your investment from the wet/damp of your MOP?

I'd call and thank them for the lovely cabinets. Move on, please : )

Jan Moyer, I get your point but still, ouch! I was just asking if these were typical as have never seen them before on any kitchen. As for thanking them for the cabinets, done that and also paid them well.

Thank you, Diana. Floors have come out really well much to my relief!

LOL...... It is common when you have "paid well" to get hung up on a nice detail that you won't even see in 36 hours.

They certainly beat the splitting/fraying of a toe kick a few years from now. Wood hates the mop

I had never heard of a plinth seal until I read this thread!

So I looked it up on Google and learned that their purpose is to protect the cabinetry from water damage. So obviously they need to be made of something that can resist the wet from your mop. The plinth seals I saw were made of PVC (yep, plastic).

So my question for our dear OP @Abi Flanagan is: were the plinths totally unexpected, or were they of an unexpected material? Just trying to learn for myself!

They were unexpected in every way. : )

However.....it was not uncommon decades ago, to find a toe kick fronted with el cheapo vinyl in black......to protect and "disappear."..........??

Plinths we’re expected. Just never seen these plastic protectors before.

    Plinths were expected.

Is it just me or is there no way to edit posts or reply directly on these threads?

You can edit your own posts. To do so, click on the post you want to edit, then there will be a little box in the lower right corner for edit/delete. At least it works that way on my computer. Not sure how it is on the phone.

Also, you can't reply directly to anyone. You can respond with @and their name (which will pop up) to alert them that you are responding. Silly that you can't respond directly.

You CAN direct message many pro's. If you'd like to send me one, yelling at me for instance? You can do that: )

@janmoyer what sort of neurotic new kitchen owner do you take me for? :)

Not neurotic.......you paid money, got some plastic protection you weren't expecting.

Paying for something , ANYTHING that is new...puts magnifiers and binoculars on everyone.

If he had said, "we protect the toe with a fitted plastic so your cabinets don't rot from the mop/ hardly noticeable unless down on your knees"? What say you? Given your expense.

So. Neurotic is the wrong word, maybe. Focused.....might be better. Highly focused?

If comfort? Designers get used to this:

Such as....... a brand new first floor. Altered to supreme convenience, in a home not known for the best housekeeping. A LOVELY client, who had blinders for any ordinary mess such as dishes in the sink, empty boxes awaiting a delivery to garage recycle and more.

    One day........" look at this"!!!

    What?

    "You don't see it?!"

    No.

"Down there ( on the shoe mold at a toe kick, under an island ) A SPECK OF A NICK. ......SO tiny weeny you need a ten times magnifier to see it.

You. Have Got To Be Kidding Me.

    I won't tell you the rest. : ) lol

It’s a bit like when you get a new car. That first scratch is an agony. By the tenth you’re like “oh, xxxx it”! 😂

Agree! Scratch it and get it OVER with. Like a client from twenty years ago. Kitchen table delivered. The truck is not yet to the corner of the street. Kid pushes fruit bowl across table. Big scratch

Hubby:" Thank GOD that's over. What's for lunch?"
