Your aisles look to be about 36" wide, which are too narrow to function properly. I wouldn't go less than 48" aisle widths. If you eliminate the wine rack at the end of the island you could move it down and to the left to increase the widths of both aisles. The area around your dining table is also tight.

As for the countertop colors, white and black would definitely be stylish, but I'm not sure how funtional black would be. Can you view a mockup somewhere, or an actual black counter?

For a smaller kitchen in an open space, I would suggest all 2 colors of cabinets with 1 color for countertops, or 1 color for cabinets with 2 colors for countertops. The smaller the space, the fewer elements should be put in. I think that's even more important when its open to other spaces that will have their own colors and textures.

Unless you get a true counterdepth refrigerator (which is generally a $$$ built in, or something European), that fridge is going to stick out much more into the aisle than pictured and you may be looking at under 30" for that aisle area in reality.

I'd push that island south a little bit: the chairs might be a bit out in the circulation area but you have more open space to walk around them if people are seated there. And I would eliminate the wine rack.

I agree wine rack has to go and tone cabinets with white quartz countertops would make the space less cluttered. I’m toying with different depth uppers to add a bit of interest- perhaps simpler is better? Thanks for your help

Keep it simple. No alternating heights or depths.

Simpler is better in a small kitchen. Function should be your first concern. The appliances will provide relief to whatever color you choose for cabinets.

Making progress on the design. I’m uncertain which depth of cabinet is better for coffee station/ breakfast bar by the fridge. We’ve addressed the clearances - 43 7/8”.
