Jeri, I didn't know Clay is from TN. You have good taste in men, lol. But yes, GH does quite well here, once I moved her to where she gets maximum air circulation. She's at the top of a retaining wall where she catches every breath of air. No mildew, no rust, only a tad of blackspot. I live in fear that the air movement will bring airborne mites and RRV, but so far, fingers crossed, no sign. I keep meaning to propagate GH so I'll have at least three as insurance. I may take hardwood cuttings this Fall/Winter, since the HP's seem to root well that way.

If you propagate GH, be sure to use DipnGro . . . She doesn't root as easily as some HP's . . . But bless her heart, she occasionally throws up a sucker, and a good half of our plants are suckers from the first one. :-)

Yes, ours produce suckers every other year or so - no work or hassle for us! Also, once I stuck a pruning discard in the soil next to GH, and made sure to throw water on it once in a while, and it rooted!

Jeri, your GH bloom in your original post is such a deep, rich pink. I noticed the few flowers I got this fall were that shade as well, I suppose from the cooler temps.

The two small bushes of GH that I got this spring from Annie’s Annuals bloomed several times. Then when warmer weather hit, they laid off blooming and went to work at growing the plants. In one summer they went from about ten inches tall to over 5 feet! The bushes are a bit gangly, like a teenager that grew too fast and didn’t have time fill out, but both look happy and healthy and I expect next year to see many blooms.

Yes. The color varies wildly, and some clones have subtle pale-to-dark striping and stipling. Anywhere from what I posted here, to this:

Like Jackie I have rooted GH by simply placing cuttings in the ground in bright shade. About half of them struck. I find that bright shade is key, and I generally use the ground under the shade of the rose I am propagating.

Yes, now that I think of it, my stuck cutting was in the shade of the big GH.
