Hello Emily,

The walls were not painted, but rather plastered, with a subtle integral light sand pigment, which is a tradition in the Santa Fe, NM area. Be it paint or plaster, we typically treat the ceiling the same as the walls. Due to the ceiling being a horizontal surface, with likely less light projected on to it than the vertical walls, it tends to appear to have a shade somewhat darker than the walls.
