I'm not sure it needs either mirror ... I might prefer some more negative space, so none of the above?

I prefer the shelf, but it's a bit too high; it needs to come down a smidge.

i like the darker floor, but you didn't ask that ...

I guess if I have to pick a set, then dresser two, but I prefer the stacked books, though not the archy thing on top of them.

    Mirror-2

Shelves above the chairs and either dresser looks fine-not great just fine. Give it all some breathing room-too much stuff ontop of the dresser.

    Cute design!!
I actually think I’d skip the mirror altogether.
    Just because I like symmetry.
If you choose to go with a mirror, I’d do the first one.

I like the art above the chair better than the shelving.

And both dressers are very similar. I like the first one a bit better

What do you prefer? I think it would be more helpful to actually test/configure in person vs trying to decide by mood boards and opinions, ie: you have received 3 different opinions just on the mirror.

It could mean a few more trips to store/on line ordering and returns. Most designers will bring in options and test in the space. Hope this helps, as I always find this process helps me.

Maureen, since most of these item will be purchased online it would be too expensive to return as shipping is expensive. I am trying to avoid trial and error. I like mirror 1 better with the bed, but I like the shelves better. The problem is the shelves are heavier and mirror 1 is too heavy and will compete with the shelves. I like mirror 2 much better with the shelves. I do not want to take the mirror away as that is 50" of space, plus I like the mirrors. I like the picture on dresser 2 better than the stairs on dresser 1. I also like how the bookends on dresser 2 make the space more neutral and add texture. But to be honest I am not loving either one. Can I ask you a new poll? A: pick from one of the two dressers designs or B: start with a whole new design on dressers?

Start with a whole new design on the dresser.

I don’t think a mirror where placed looks like it belongs thete. Both are nice but I’d use one over the chest and rethink the bedside area. Do you already own the end tables and lamps? If not, I’d go karger with both and keep that area symmetrical.

Another option would be rectangular mirrors above the end tables, behind the lamps.

I couln’t get the pics to post above

Thank you Olychick, but mirrors like that are not my style. I like modern, mid century and a little boho. To me mirrors like that are traditional. While there is nothing wrong with traditional and it can be very beautiful, it is just not for me. I was trying to keep the style a little with the rest of my home. A tad different due to the room being private, but still keep somewhat similar to that style.

I do want to say Olychick, I truly appreciate the time you took to help me. Lol Beth, I realized that after I posted.

It's all very busy in comparison to these pictures of your other rooms. A bedroom shouldn't be the busiest ... you want to rest there, and so do your eyes, so less is more.

I'm still in the no mirror next to the bed camp ... there being space there doesn't mean it has to be filled. If you insist upon something, maybe another plant or some decorative branches in a tall, thin vase snugged into the corner.

Still like the shelves, but lower and with less on them. Two pictures on the top shelf: big one can stay, little one should have landscape orientation, no whatever that other thing is. On the lower shelf, stack some of the books horizontally on the left, removing that bookend.

Too much on the dresser ... needs at least one fewer object. Hang mirror 2 over the dresser; the plant and horizontal stack of books can stay, but no arch thing on top of the books ... no art. I you prefer the vertical books with the bookends, then the tall plant should be replaced by a low bowl ... succulents, coins, nothing, whatever you want (or don't want) in it.

Also, the rug the same color as the floor isn't adding anything ... a couple shades darker if you want to stick with a camel color, like the brown bed pillows, or maybe a blue.

The desk chair isn't really the right tone of off white. There's a lot of cream, ivory, and white ... that desk chair leans green. Get a white or blue if you can't get a matching cream. (If you go mid or dark blue on the rug, I would stick with light on the chair and vice versa.)

Accept that there will be returns in the design process ... maybe look for options that offer free shipping for items that are least certain.

Michelle I wasn’t suggesting those exact styles, just using them as a suggestion for placement! . You could certainly use MCM pieces. The round mirror in that spot looks odd, I think.

    Your home is gorgeous!

Would you mind sharing where the light above your rectangle dining table is from?

I wouldn’t do mirrors at all. I agree with the ”bedrooms ought to be calming and relaxing” comment and I think the mirrors add visual clutter (x two, obviously, because they’re reflecting other things).

Likewise on the dresser doodads. Leave some open space on the dresser tops - imagine searching for a specific pair of socks, pulling out several while you look. Where will you lay those socks down?

Melissa the dining room light fixture is from Crate and Barrel.

Littlebug, lol, I would still have room for socks. The pictures are only about a inch thick and they would go all the way back against the wall, but I can see why it may feel cluttered.

You had a post from quite a while ago.........Same bedroom. As I recall the fight was white blue and breezy, versus olive and brown muddier tones.

    You're still agonizing.

Put the mirror over the bed,,,,,,,,, the one you like best.

    The sunburst.

You need not fill every inch of every space. And it is always good to stay in ONE thread.

ONE thread for every question can get unwieldy and confusing — which I’ve seen complained about here often. New dilemmas should have new threads.

    My votes: 1, 2, 2.

I think the sunburst with the longer sunray design is not in good balance with the window.

Which is how, Jinx, Most op's will get off the rails. Everything exists in a context.

The mirror is simply part of a whole. the whole being that room, and her NEED to explain the rest of the house to anyone not remembering she posted well before this.

No need, when in the same thread.

It’s fine to start a new thread for a new specific question, Michelle.

If it agonizes anyone that much, they can always ignore the thread.

The mirror can't go over the bed ... unless the bed moved to a different wall. There appears to be a window there. Which I guess brings up another question ... are you set on the layout? you might be able to achieve the mirror by your bed better with a different set up. If I have my bearings correct, perhaps you could set up the bed where you have the dresser (with the mirror over the bed), the dresser across from it, where you have the desk, and flip the desk to across from the door with the chair still back to the post but turned 90°. I don't know if that still fits, though, without room dimensions, or if the room lacks the depth to have the dresser and bed across from one another.

As for mirrors in general, while I don't use them for my spaces, I don't mind them in other people's. It's not that I'm trying to tell you not to include the mirror, I just wouldn't put it where you're showing, as it's unbalancing the space and, in my opinion, overfilling the wall. Art over a bed is common and looks nice, but you already have a window there. Something tall and thin would be balanced by the curtains and the fact that the window is not centered on the wall. There is a plant on the right, but it is very airy, so really needs no counterpart on the left. That is why I don't like the mirror there ... it has nothing to do with it being a mirror.

Blueberrybundtcake-The mirror can't go over the bed- oh but it can, and will. I do have to admire your passion though. You really hate that mirror there. I got it. I am not mad. I think it is cute your so passionate about it. Not moving my bed to the dresser as that is a bathroom wall and it faces against the bedroom door. I don't know why, but I cannot have my bed facing opposite of the door.

Don't worry though, I will change my decor in four more years and the mirror will be gone. I tell you all this in a jokingly way, except I am keeping the mirror. The scale of the 2d is a little small, there is a lot of room there. I filled up that area in my last design. Pics below. You have to realize design is a art and not everyone is going to love your art. I do get compliments all the time on my home, so some people do like my art.

Thanks Jinx! Jan I feel like sometimes threads get a little long and people are not willing to go through it all. Sometimes people answer old questions, when I am asking new questions, even though it is about the same room. Plus sometimes you get a new set of eyes. Jan you can be a little harsh. When I told you my husband died you said "WHO may I ask is sleeping in your room??? Who?" I wanted to say "my cat!!!" I know you were trying to tell me please myself, but a little harsh.

I'm not a big fan of mirrors in the bedroom. When I first wake in the morning I don't really care to see myself because I am definitely not in my best condition.

Ok, another which do you think would look best? The picture with the swirl statue or this print below with a block statue. Keep in mind this print would also be hung vertically.
