I would be careful about another solid color that is close in color to the couch. A pattern of accent color would look nice. Whatever pattern you pick for the chair have a pillow or two made from it to use on the couch, it ties the space together and makes it look like they go together not just coordinate.

I don’t like big print on my chairs. My pillows will give me color and design. I am going out on my search tomorrow for my area rug, I will pick a color from the rug for my chairs. The rug is even harder for me to pick than the fabric! I really like wood floors, but not parquet (even though they are in great shape), I have to buy a rug. blackmoon1 my sofa is Crypton has a texture to it. Is this fabric to close to the sofa?

I would suggest you first look for the rug and then coordinate your chair(s) and accent pillows with the rug.

Find the highest end broadloom venue in your town. Look at all the solid color wool textures in 12 foot widths. It will reduce waste on a cut and hand bind. Stay out of the big box, They won't have the wools and they will do the most awful bind, if at all. Look for someone carrying Antrim. Stark, etc.

The area rug concept ready to go? That will be very standard sizes, and nobody will want to cut a 10 x14 to 10 x 10. .......MAYBE an animal pattern on that would be possible, doubt much else.

The parquet is busy, you don't love pattern......, right?

My favorite is the navy fabric you posted. I would definitely to do animal fabric on chairs, but on pillows it would be fine.

Jan after much thought and moving the sofa and chairs about, I can get a rug 10’ wide and 8’ long, the back legs to the end table (or any end table) will be off the carpet and the back of the sofa

legs will not be on the carpet either.

I will not match the two tables, the end table hopefully will some kind of storage.

I live in a high-rise, I corrected some necessary issues that one can not even see. My next job is to get rid of the popcorn ceilings, not just because I don’t like them, the light fixtures have to be be moved and the ceiling are cement.

Lisedv, Yes a 10x 10 would be great and I could do 10x8 if I had to. I decided the two chairs will be in a tan or beige and use the pillows and rug for color.

How about mixing with gray? I am also very conservative and I just added gray accents with my off white/beige sofa. I love how it turned out. My chair is off white with gray and light green stripes.

The “In” home decor colors/color combos are found in new rugs and fabrics, is why decorators suggest buying a rug first. If hard to find caramel, it means caramel is not popular enough right now and maybe a different shade of brown is “in”.

Did you know that Studio McGee has a lot of items they sell through Target? For instance here is a very nice area rugs, it's a 7 x 10 but they might have others. Lots of decor accessories as well...

I love your sofa and all the greenery visible through the windows. I would look for ways to bring that color inside. For the chairs, maybe consider an olive fabric with a subtle print. If you are planning to add a rug and/or window treatments, I would coordinate them with the fabric for the chairs. If the chairs are well constructed, I think reupolstering them is the best choice. Nice fabrics may seem expensive but the cost of a new, well built chair will cost much more. Good luck!

Caramel ( very in btw, as it is a classic pairing with GREENS ) is going to turn up in:

Look at Kravet, Schumacher, Thibault. Thibault shows" limited stock" on every single Club Velvet color _ I just checked. That can mean they have as little as three yards.

Ceesullivan, I agree and I appreciate your feedback. I found some nice fabrics, but not the one I fell in love with! So I reached out to them, they don’t sell fabric, only their furniture.

I have to say there are some nice fabrics, and they are affordable compared to others, that’s for sure.

I am looking for an area rug tomorrow, now that I know an 8 x 10 will work. Hopefully it will look nice with the fabric.

Schumacher has stock in their velvets-I'm partial to the Antique Strie velvets. They come in lots of colors--Goldenrod or Sienna are caramel-ish. But Jan is correct--get a designer who can access the best fabrics so you don't have to settle. But be prepared to spend $$$$$.

A: I wouldn’t do caramel with that sofa; you will want more contrast. B: look for rug first, as many have already recommended. C: Kravet has lots of nice velvets, in all kinds of colors (I did not check pattered fabrics, however), and my choices were in stock. D: “affordable” is all relative!!! What one person considers cheap is expensive for another….what’s “affordable” mean to you? Around $100? $200, or even higher? Fabrics can get very pricey, and the interpretation of “affordable” is different for everyone! (I think ours was around $140/yd; compared to a nice embroidered fabric a lovely Peter Fasano custom printed linen that’s definitely affordable.)

Miromar Lakes? My parents used to live in that area. Have you tried the Miromar Design Center? Or International Design Source in Naples? I think they still are to-the-trade only, but you can definitely browse the showrooms.

As far as fabric, do you keep things for a long time? I would suggest you look at fabric with a high wear rating. Fabric is expensive, so you should make sure the one you choose will last many years. For a chair, I won't pick a fabric with anything less than 40,000 Double Rubs.

The boat must have docked and been unloaded. I just checked the stock on all the Schumacher Strie Velvets, every color except Olive has enough stock for a couple of chairs, many over 100 yards. It's a high performance fabric, over 100,000 double rubs, and stain resistant.

I still say hire a designer or go to a really good upholsterer to get samples so you can see the fabric in person before you buy it. As for the price, consider it a long-term purchase, and amortize the cost over 10-20 years. You'll tire of it before it wears out.

If your chairs are comfortable then it’s worth it to scour the world for an affordable fabric you like and get them redone. I have a PERFECT chair that I bought so long ago I won’t reveal the date. It has been recovered three times since it comes to every house I’ve owned. My husband loves it since it’s a tight cushion recliner, but looks like a traditional, narrow wingback chair when straight. Every penny I’ve spent on that chair was worth it.

And yeah, looking for fabric is the hardest part. Don’t give up.

Get a heavy linen. Have the upholsterer send it out for backing. All linen must be knit upholstery backed. But you'll get a great texture, for a lot less money, a great up to date look, and probably the caramel tone you want too. It will be still, far less $$$ than the rest.

I’d say no skirt.

Which begs what fabric is that?What did we miss? : ) Because the TYPE of fabric often dictates what would be most effective skirt. Remember, they will feel a bit heavier, more closed with any skirt. The arms, unless altered.......do NOT really suggest a skirt, at all. I'd leave well enough alone. jmho
