We have a 12" pendant over a 42" table in a breakfast nook. It's intended to supplement the general lighting in the room, and seems plenty sufficient. Sometimes we turn it on solo when the only person in the kitchen is sitting at the table, and that works. It would probably not be enough if the table were in a dining room and it was the only light source for the room.

Depends on if you're asking about proportions (in which case the entire room needs to be considered) or light output (which depends on the shade as well as the wattage the fixture can handle).

The fixture you're looking at is pretty substantial-looking and reads bigger than it actually is.

hard to explain iso I'll attach a picture . It's a open floor condo and in the dining "area" is really just the corner of the main room. Ceiling height at the electrical box is 7.8 ft, though halfway beyond the table I have vaulted ceilings that go up to 14 feet (though I have canned lights up there).

The opening of the bowl you have on the table looks to be about a foot wide. That measurement seems too small for your pendant to look properly scaled, IMO.

Could you make more of the corner with different furniture?

No, it is not to small that is a cozy little corner with a low ceiling. not sure what people are thinking here, as that is a very low little celling and a very small little space, anything too larger aka half the width would be cumbersome, and draw too much attention. that being said I am not sold on the style so much for your space. As to scale, the rug. just remove it, id also remove the 4th chair that is baby in the corner, and just bring it out when you have to pull the table out to seat 4. not sure how many eat here but I would treat this like a café table. I would probably go with something very "plain" as in a white globe or satin nickel pendant, from this view it needs to tie to the modern space and the pendant lights. maybe even a small 3 light cluster. with black cord. that would give you volume with scale.

A trick I read about is to blow up a balloon to the dimension of the lamp and hang it from the ceiling to see if you like the scale. To my eye, that last mock up from RL Relocation LLC is shown larger than 12”.

yeah the wooden bowl on the table is actually about 1 ft, so I think you guys are right ,it's going to be small. I actually was going to buy a cluster style light originally , but those have very large canopies that would extend past the ceiling (the electrical box is basically bordering the edge).

Not a bad idea to remove the carpet. I can't go larger since it would go into the foyer.
