I like task lighting over an island , that fixture is cool but IMO not for a kitchen

I LOVE the fixture, but the cleaning issue is a fair point. What is the island? If it is mainly a gathering space it might be fine, if it has a sink or god forbid a cooktop I would want something different

Agree with others: in addition, It is only 1/2 the length of the island.

Lovely fixture (full disclosure…I have over my dining room table in a different shape). I’ve had it about a year. It does require dusting but I have not had to clean each globe individually. The globes are a bit tricky to take on and off. If it’s going to get greasy I’d choose something else. If not, and you love it, go for it (assuming proportions are correct for island) It certainly makes a statement and is lovely when lit.

You have a 10 ft island so I will assume you have a large kitchen. So you are probably at least 5 or 6 ft away from where you are cooking. I would go for it! What a cool fixture. Make sure you are using your exhaust fan when cooking to help control the amount of grease that may get into the air - it will help.

Those balls look like they will create patterns/shadows because of the glass patterns. Are you okay with that?

Gorgeous! I'd do it in a heartbeat as long as everything else in the kitchen is just as refined.

I like the fixture aesthetically but was questioning how well it will function for task lighting (and that was before reading the questions above about cleaning). But I think the alternate lantern options you posted would be even worse from a function standpoint. I know that lanterns have been quite popular in recent years, but I've never been able to get on board with them for locations where you need task lighting (or anyplace except a foyer or exterior, really).

We also have 8 can lights so plenty of lighting!

I love it! I don't want to clean it but it will make a statement.
