Any suggestions on how to incorporate an electric fireplace on this wall? i would like to elevate the space since this is a focal point and and get ride of the movable one thats there and have a contractor do some sort of full bump out but unsure how that will look since its such an awkward wall and the tv is so big on it. unfortunately, there is no other place for the tv to go. any thoughts or reccomendations on how to improve the space?!

It would be helpful to have more photos of the entire space, as well as a scaled drawing. You will get a lot more useful help by sharing that.

The only recommendation I can make is for the lighting. Ceiling lighting is not optimal for a sitting/living area. Much better is a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height. If you must keep the ceiling light, see if you can get a dimmer on it.

To where does that door go? It would be an odd place to locate a fireplace, given the way homes are built. Other possible walls….

Lower the TV for better viewing and put a console table under it. Put the fireplace on another wall. Are you sure this is the only spot for the TV and fireplace? Without seeing all the walls in the room, none of us here can give an informed suggestion that is something you hadn't thought of.

Could the TV go I to the other corner, where the chair and lamp are? Definitely post more pics!

Thanks everyone! I’ve added more photos of the space. unfortunately the corner isnt big enough for the tv. I could lower the tv but that is still the only option i can see for both the tv and fireplace in the space. the door on that wall is to the guest bedroom. the other door on the left is the master. such an odd space!

I also do have a new light fixture to replace the fan. just need to install it!

Have you considered TV & FP between the windows, floating the sectional to face them with a traffic path behind it to the guest room? If rarely used, the guest room might make a nice media room and leave the living room for socializing. Here a pair of daybeds serve for guests and for lounging in front of the TV.

I don’t think you have space for an electric fireplace and bumping out that wall would be odd. Just get a nice console the width of the wall and mount your tv at eye level when seated.

The TV couldn’t go catty corner, on a nice console, on the other side?

I would try the tv and fireplace on the wall between the windows.

If you are able, move the sectional around, then post some more photos.

Simple, turn your couch toward the window. Put the fireplace underneath the picture on the other wall.
Get a larger tv stand/console put underneath the tv to balance out the television mounted on the wall.

For more drama get a larger table for the sofa.. then perhaps remove the rug to show more if your gorgeous floor.

Im not sure if that is a fireplace that you have already there (?) if so, are toy referring to an electric fireplace insert?

if that is too big, have you looked into or considered just the electric fireplace logs? they are pretty small ( around 20 inches wide- they maybe even offered in smaller sizes )

i recently looked into them as we have a wood burning fireplace , but have a daughrer with asthma. the wood, sood wood, etc is too problematic and wanted a cleaner/healthier option to use. thet are pretty nice in my opinion. check them out if you havent

Flip the sectional and put the TV between the windows.

If you want to keep it on this wall, forget the fireplace, get a console the width of the tv and lower the tv.

Don't have a floorplan but seems to me the fireplace & TV would look nice between the windows.

What is behind the sectional? Kitchen?

Problem with the feeling of the room:

    --TV overpowers too-small electric fireplace

    --Everything squished into that corner.

    Possible solutions:

-- Turn your sectional around to face windows and place a console and TV there. The sofa back also creates a cozy separation of your living room space.

--Get a Craigslist using these search terms "midcentury, MCM, Mid century sideboard, buffert, console" either length of wall between windows or wall where it is. Look for one in light golden wood to echo your nice floors.

    OR:

    --Get a smaller TV

    --Sell the too-small electric fireplace

    AND:

--Move chair in corner closer to the sectional to create a conversational group.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! i dont think it will work for me to put the tv between the windows unfortunately due to the walkway to the gues room which also serves as an office. i think from the drawing i need to have a wider electric fireplace to balance out the tv and will try moving the chair to make a conversation space

What about doing a corner fireplace and leaving the tv where it is? That way you can have the 2 things , but each will have their own spot. That tv is huge so I don't think a fireplace can be big enough to offset the scale of that.

What is the width of you wall where the TV is? Maybe something like this would work.

Turn the sectional to face the window, take the small section out of the current long side and put it in the short side once it is turned. walkway issue solved. I think you need really ask yourself do you need an eclectic fireplace in a small room that is already challenged?

Construct the new fireplace so that it's at least as large as the TV over it. Most importantly buy a much larger and beautiful rug to infuse some warmth and character into your space. Make the rug as large as you can, it will ground your whole scheme. Look on ebay for affordable and beautiful Oriental rugs; they will last forever. Remove all the clutter on each side of that door and buy a good-looking and comfortable chair to place on the larger rug so that you have a proper seating area. Just a sectional alone looks very unfinished. Do something about the cord hanging down from the TV, it really ruins the look. I'm sorry, but the floor lamp by the door is very unsightly. The painting above the sofa is hung too high and it's also not wide enough. Find a larger painting that will really fill out and complete that space. There are too many small, cluttery objects everywhere which are also colorless so that they have no impact, which includes the sofa pillows. This room needs color badly, and if you could repaint the walls in a warm white that would also help a great deal. To make a space sing you just have to be a bit bolder with color, and always use both warm and cool tones so that your scheme doesn't look flat.

Agree with RL Relocation. It is awkward to have the focal point of your room facing that door. It will never look right in that location.

Don’t try to squeeze something where it doesn’t fit or work….I’d skip the fake fireplace altogether. Do people think they’re attractive?

Nothing is worse than a faux fire in a tv console, poser, junk, cheap wooden box. I mean nothing.

    Jan, Coray

sometimes for health reasons, people cannot use a wood burning fireplace.

we have a child with asthma and cannot iuse our wood burning. If we woild like to utilize our fireplace in some form, an electric log/ imsert option is what we have ro do. Not ideal, but health comes over home esthetics any day. Real wood burning doesnt work for everyone unfortunately.

Gas? Can be incredibly realistic. Electric log? Same thing, I'm fine with it. Just not a faux in a tv !!! console.

yes, gad are better looking than electric, however, not as easy to just add a gas line We are currently going through this issue.

We cannot get a permit to approve the work for added / tapping into gas line due to a has moritorium .. Our only option is dontnuse the fire place or use an elctric option.

Yes, gas logs I get, too, but I think I’d rather skip it altogether if I couldn’t fit a decent fireplace. It’s not a must for heating, and as far as ambience goes……

    **Gas

*only option is dont ise the fireplace

    coray…

Well if we skip it all together becasue we have no option to use other than electric logs or electric insert, we sre stuck looking at a black hole. not very appealing suring winter time, holidays, company visiting etc

to each their own, but id rather utilize the space somehow , as opposed to leaving it as wasted space ; even if it means using electric logs. i dont think the interior design police are gonna come in and give us a ticket. LOL

we just make the best of it .

Take the small armless piece out of long side, turn sofas so one back creates the walkway facing the wall between windows and other side backs onto what appears dining room. Now have 2 similar sides, with other the divider for dining area. Move TV between windows at lower height (less next strain) buying a console or even use a narrow table for now, same or longer width as TV. Less glare on tv a bonus. Can’t see dining area but may need to turn orientation of the table for better usage. Then can keep fireplace where is but really should just remove entirely or kitty corner where small chair is. (Not best, some other room? Dining area? Office?). In its place the armless section now turns into a chair creating a conversational area, (a throw over its edge adds some color.) A nice reading lamp and table creates a “reading nook.” A colorful rug would be nice but your current rug can unite the area. Add in a bigger coffee table or even better a large ottoman where can put feet up and store blankets underneath for family comfort. Pop a smaller tray on top for drinks and small decor. Can probably do all of this now with what you have and only need to buy the ottoman and a better lamp. Form and function much improved.

    have you thought about

A turning the sofa just to see

B hanging the tv in the corner where the lamp and chair currently are

C lowering the TV a whole lot lower and just getting a console

D swapping the rug from the dining room

Houzzers 'liked' Beverly's from 3 days ago - neat, trim, especially with style of items at the left..... ? Lots of modern fireplaces are smaller than a tv.
