I like Retayne dye fixative. Have used it for years when prewashing fabric. You can buy it at Darma trading. I don’t think vinegar does much unless you use a high concentration. You try a colour catcher, I usually use at least two. Reds are notorious for bleeding, especially if the grey goods is of a lower quality.

Get some Shout color catcher sheets to put in the wash i use them when washing all new quilts i make I would use at least 3 of them

I bought the Color Catcher sheets because they were readily available at the grocery store. Worked great in terms of bleed, but the quilt looks duller after washing with a bit of a "shiny" appearance. Weird. But, I guess I got what I paid for -- it was a super-duper final sale clearance at BB&B (like $20 cheap....) so no big deal. Disappointing, but would have been really upset had I spent a lot of money on it, since I can't return it. Eh, I'm just going to pull it out for Christmas anyway.

Thanks! It's awfully vibrant -- like knock your eyes out R-E-D, I ended up not liking it much on the bed. That's the risk you take with final sale. Maybe I'll take it to consignment and recoup a few bucks.
