You could try vinyl laminate sheets as a temporary fix.

You have 26 square feet of counter space and $500.00 or 19.23 per square foot.

Question - did you use a poor on 2 part epoxy over the top of your painted countertop?

CR is not as reliable as touted. Please check online the home improvement stores for butcher block countertop — birch seems cheapest and you look like you want a lighter look anyway. 8ft x 2ft for $299.

Downright awful most times rom my perspective, the fact that Pella windows keep's getting high grades to me proves they play the pay for play game.

I have noclue about "CR" but Ikea or a big box store will have butcher block and also those preformed laminate counters go there get what you need and for sure $500 will be enough

I wasn't promoting CR - just the first cost comparison that came up. Not wanting laminate with a $500.00 budget is limiting.

I didn't think of Ikea. They do have butcher block veneer for as low as $129/$169 for 74"/98" lengths. $300 for counters (not including install).

I am not sure that you will find something better than laminate for less then $500.

Looking at HD cost guide even laminate can be tough to meet the $500.00 budget with install.

Looking at most guides laminate are now at $25-$27 per sq ft. = more than the OPs $19.00 per sq ft budget.

Ikea has some really great precut countertops that are about the right size. Like this grey laminate one is 74 x 25 5/8", and only $94 (it also comes in 98" length for $124). Maybe you can find a friend with a good workshop to cut it for you? (If the edge cut is a little rough, it could be covered with a tile backsplash.)

@lw17 yes, it can be sealed. We had butcher block in 2 kitchens and it worked great. In one, we sealed with butcher block oil (they make special kinds—we used what IKEA sells). In the other, we sealed with satin polyurethane which is less work to maintain.

@beeboo22 thank you! did you get them from Ikea or did you have them installed? trying to find someone to install i was going to go to Home Depot. or did you just have a contractor do it? i woudlnt be able to cut myself

The first counters were bought from IKEA and we installed them ourselves. The second time it was a kitchen reno so the contractor purchased and installed them.

Lowe’s has “off the shelf” butcher block countertops and might be able to provide installation. Or even a good handyman can install them. The hardest part is cutting out the sink area.

What do you have against laminate?

All of the big boxes in my area stock ready made laminate counters. Available in 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 feet lengths. The ones at Menard's are less than $8 per square foot. You could replace your counters with new ones for less than $250 using the in stock option.

Laminate can look really nice these days. I wouldn’t discard it out of hand

May be worth asking Lowes for a quote: measuring/installation and cost of counter as well as the 4” edging.

I would look at the in stock laminate tops in HD or Lowes. They are very nice and very durable. The in stock stuff is also inexpensive.

Lowes has a finished butcherblock for about $350 for an 8ft piece and laminate stock colors for about $120- $150 for an 8ft piece. You will still need to pay someone to remove your old tops, unhook the sink, install the new tops and reinstall the sink. That labor alone will most likely be more than $500.
