Is this a botched hand trowel finish?

help! We finally got the keys to our Toll Brothers new build in Las Vegas, and among alllll of the other issues with our house, our walls are a disaster IMO. We payed about 14k for the 'hand trowel finish' that several of the model homes had. Including photos of the walls in the models here:

but this is what we got (only texture on the wall circled - they're all square splotches!):

This is wrong, right? The builder keeps putting us off saying it's up to the person doing the work and their 'artistic eye' and the 'mapping'...but I feel like this is going to be a huge thing to fix and they don't want to do it. My husband and I are SO upset by this. We would not have spent any money for what we got - it looks like an accident. I've now emailed the person in charge of all of the Toll Brother las vegas builds and am waiting to hear back, but we have to fully move in soon so we need to start working on a solution now. What can we do? Can we do anything?

The texture should be somewhat evenly spread throughout the wall area. If the only parts with texture are the areas you circled, it sounds like they did mostly smooth walls for you. At this point, I would ask them to just make all of the areas completely smooth and forget about the texture. The only way to get the skip trowell texture everywhere is to completely redo the drywall finishing, which is not realistically going to happen.

You had some leverage before you took possession of the house, but by closing you accepted it the way it was built, specially when dealing with a production builder like Toll Brothers.

Your best bet is to try to highlight the difference between the model homes and what you got. Maybe find other homeowners who paid for that extra finish too and ask to see what they got. Good luck.

Tour the models with this finish and compare. Gently write a letter to the builder if not. It is a hand finish, so as long as it is relatively consistent in your home.
