It doesn't seem to tolerate wet much..so it fades away soon for me.

I saw a video comparing Verbena rigida and Verbena bonariensis. Verbena rigida is smaller with more intensive color. I still like Verbena bonariensis better it looks really airy and goes better with other flowers

O, I think you might like this, Rouge. I have had it on and off in my gravel garden (it isn't hard from seed, flowering in it's first year). It is a neat and mannerly plant which fills that tricky period in July when all the early summer plants are winding down.

I just leave mine in the ground (like dahlias) but I think cold climate gardeners might have to lift and store this, as winter wet might be an issue.

@dbarron I'm thinking that you don't have difficulty growing bonariensis?

Bonariensis is horribly invasive, I haven't even considered planting it since I had it at my last home (also wet). It reseeds successfully EVERYWHERE!

No I got you. I have lots of experience growing bonariensis and know well its "brilliance" re reproduction. I just wanted to get a feel for how successful rigida is in terms of propagation...but it seems there is no comparison.

No, it is nothing like as prolific as VB - I cannot really recall any seedlings at all...but being a bit hoe-happy, I am not always a reliable observer of seeding habits. Never a nuisance though and makes nice regular clumps. Reminding me to order this and a couple of blue salvias for next spring.

I am also growing a taller vervain in my dry garden - 'Bampton'...considered cast-iron for droughty areas.

I have only grown rigida in pots and during the time (30 yrs ago) when it was a component of research for my honors thesis....so I'm replying based on OLD info, but yeah, I don't remember having any unintended propagation, even though I would have loved it then.
