I wondered if this thread was legit, appears it is. I once as a child started a large tree on fire trying to smoke out a hive of honey bees. Never got any honey but sure got a good ass whoopin'!

"Will my tree survive"? I transplanted several 5-6 foot Rose of Sharon trees/bushes a couple weeks ago and now have freezing temps and a foot of snow. No special treatment, just native soil and a good watering. What ya thunk?

Could do...if the cambium layer remains intact. Years ago, I snapped a peach tree, leaving a sliver of bark. I jammed a broomstick in the middle and taped the whole thing with micropore. Took a year but the xylem and phloem cells repoined and the outer bark callused over. The heartwood which is burning out is basically dead xylem cells and not essential for life. Yew trees regularly send out new daughter stems, losing the entire heartwood so no, I wouldn't give this tree up yet.

i would be very surprised if that fire did not cook the vascular system of the tree above ground.. in other words.. obliterate the cambium ...

all that said.. many trees will break dormant buds from the stump or roots.. so i would not give up on that possibility ..

It will never look right again - even if it lives. Time for a new tree.

O yeah, that fire didn't look like it was going to simply fade away...but with quick intervention,...plants are resilient. Sometimes astonishingly so.

Could well survive. There are plenty of 'blasted oaks' etc around the countryside. Completely hollow but still leafing out every year.

trees includes all the shrubs and conifer folks..

and perennials includes annual and name that plant peeps...

and that all my forums ... and all my friends ... [well. actually it leaves out the houseplant peeps ... but thats ok ..they're weird .. lol ...]
