No, not right, though not uncommon:

- With only lights above the walkway, your head will throw a shadow as you work at the countertop or the island.

- You definitely want lights above the island, but lights ONLY above the island will throw shadows as you work at the countertop.

- You definitely want lights above the sink. Depending upon your choice, maybe two pendant lights -- your window is big enough to support them.

- I don't like a bunch of recessed lights (as shown), as they create a Swiss-cheese ceiling look. I'd rather see a pretty pendant light above the sink + multiple pendant lights over the island. In addition, under cabinet lighting. And one recessed light just in front of the refrigerator -- again, it's about avoiding that shadow.

- Be sure these lights are on separate switches so you can pick choose which ones you want to use at any given time.

It does seem a bit odd, especially if you're adding pendent lighting over the island. They should almost be pushed back closer to the cabinets!

think 3 feet apart, 4 inches above the edge of the counter,

google recessed/can light placement... there are all kinds of formats based on the size of the room, etc.

for an electrician apparently he isn't up on light requirements. smh

if this is a new build, why didn't you wire when it was bare studs?

Task lighting should go 6" in from the edge of the counter where you'll work. That way you don't create a shadow on what you're cutting. You'll be using led bulbs. 450 lumens at the counter is the minimum. Put everything on dimmers.

That gray paint on the ceiling only visually lowers the ceiling. I would repaint in matte ceiling white. for better light reflection.

That is plaster- we replastered the ceilings- they will be painted white

So I will have under counter lighting, three hanging lights over the island- so the question is whether recessed lights need to be task lighting (closer to the counter) or general lighting? If general lighting because i will have under counter - then are they in the right spot with the idea to duplicate the same layout on the fridge wall for symmetry??

Ok, I see you've roughed the island lights and (2) in the hallway, and added more cabinets. The hallway looks too much. Using ceiling lights are the best way to task a kitchen counter:

Undercabinet lighting is really accent lighting for the backsplash. It can contribute to task lighting, but that is not what it is meant for. Realize it can only be where uppers are, and depending on where under the cabinet you place UCL and it's track style will affect how it's light is directed.

Don't worry so much about ambient ("general") lighting in the kitchen - a single 1K lumen lampholder in the center of the room would be adequate ambient. So when you satisfy your kitchen task lighting, those same lights will simultaneously provide the ambient you need. And the essence of a Kitchen's function does not involve task lighting aisles, but the counters. There is one commenter who has been questioning this thinking - but consider a light in your living room where you put it next to a chair, or in the bathroom over the vanity - you light each and every room for it's function.

I have a feeling with the fresh plaster and the wiring that's already been done, that your kitchen is as it will stay. So consider this information for the next visitor to this thread.

why are there no lights by the fridge? the picture 3onthe tree is accurate. this current placement will shadow. Also, with that low of a celing please tell me you are not doing hanging lights.

The blue tape on the ceiling shows the new plan…thoughts? Ignore the other lights- we are plastering over them. We will have pendants over the island.

Is the hole over the sink for a smaller recessed can - is it centered and 3"? And that's an exterior window (not sure with the 2x4 on the outside)?

Do you have a plan, even if hand drawn on graph paper? Pictures skew perspective a lot.
