If you paint the entire front of the home (including the garage doors) a medium to dark color, that will create the illusion that the garage doors are a lot less noticable. The problem is that in Florida, a dark color will make the house hotter. You may want to contact an architect for this. They may be able to create a beautiful superficial lightweight structure on the top level front of the house that creates a diversion from the bottom.

New garage doors (arched windows to make more sense of 2 arched above) and a cedar trellis or pergola will create more interest and also visually distract from the odd window configuration.

Thanks so much! really like the arched window garage doors to tie in with the arched upper windows! if money was no problem , I'd probably change the arched windows!

I love the trellis but mount it higher to fill in the large blank space and vines will soften the look. These are with and without posts.

May I ask what the rooms are with the arched windows above the garage? I understand the constraints of budget, but perhaps in the future…. In the meanwhile, the pergola idea is lovely! And in your locale, anything you plan to grow on it will fill in quickly!

Very easy DIY to achieve the same effect is just by planting flowering trumpet vines and simply training them to grow along the wall above the garage doors. Voila.

I suppose you could tack the vines up above the awnings and let the flowers spill over them. That would be nice. I think they just need to be higher up the wall to fill in the blank space.

Great ideas .... raise the pergola so not so much empty space👍👍
But does this make the garage doors look short??

The pergola divides the facade into two storys so maybe not. Or just leave the awnings, that would help. Here is no pergola, just the vines tacked to the wall and spillilng over the awnings Actually quite lovely. Place planters to the sides of the garage doors. I think I'd go with this.

    I just edited my comment.

Soo.... the planters attached to the walls between the garage doors would hold the flowering vines! Good idea ..... just must water them regularly!

The half round windows are above beds in two different bedrooms!

would a decorative PVC railing under the upper windows all across the front help break up the big empty space ??

No -- the pots would not hold the vines. They get too big and need too much water. The pots are for decorative plants that don't need a lot of care.

Plant the vines in the ground on each side of the garage and use sturdy nylon twine nailed up to hold them up as they grow up and then horizontally -- high to help fill in the empty space above the awnings - and let them spill 3 or 4 feet down onto the awnings.

That decorative railing mentioned would work to hold the vines even.

I would paint the house and the garage doors a shade of the awnings. Put a trellis under the half moon windows.

Interesting idea with the trellis below the 1/2 circle windows!
The awnings are in good shape except for the white trim edging that has turned black😬

I was thinking that the house roof is a silver standing seam roof and maybe the existing structure under the canvas could be used to add a standing seam awning which would not turn black from the mold and mildew .... like the white awning trim. what do u think?
