Ben or someone else who grows Scentuous

Ben - I've seen your pictures in hmf of Scentuous...Tantau rose. What do you think of it? Sounds like it's really fragrant. Do you like it? Why? Why not? :) :)

Thanks!

I have had Scentous for 2 years and I like her very much. She’s very fragrant, reblooms well, though not as rapidly as some, perhaps. In my dry heat during the middle of summer the blooms shatter in about 3 days, though I don’t consider that a huge fault. It’s just what happens to most of my roses in the hottest part of summer. Her fluffy, ruffly blooms are gorgeous and I love using her for cutting. The bush is a nice rounded shape and has no disease issues in my climate.

4 months agoSince you mostly named OGR forrm and lighter pink roses, I’d second the vote for Scentuous. Tons of blooms, excellent scent, nice shapely compact plant, no nodding heads

rifis - the height of Ben's (and other people's) Scentuous is really a sticking point for me. I want something taller as my roses are usually shorter than what the specs say. Definitely those are stunning blooms!

Judi - How tall is your Scentuous? Does it just stay around 1-2 feet? Your Scentuous sounds amazing! I think I'll get one if it gets a little taller than 2 feet. :) :)

    Thanks!

Carol, mine is a good three feet tall and wide presently. I expect that in my warm climate it might get taller in time.

    Hi Carol

Overall I think Scentuous a very good rose, it blooms freely, has a shapely bush with distinctly ruffled blooms. The scent is very sweet, I believe @noseometer said it was her favorite scent of all, and described as bourbon and vanilla, among other things. I’d agree with Judi that the bloom could last a bit longer…it lasts longer than the average Austin, but is more fleeting than a typical HT. I only had mine for 1 year in TX, 1 year in CA, so I can’t speak to mature height. I would say it’s not short (like Bolero or Angel Face), probably medium height.

Ben - perfect! And the blooms may last a bit longer here in zone 3b. I'm glad it's not short like Bolero or Angel Face...that's what I was trying to avoid.

Judi - three feet would be great for me...but doubt if mine would grow as quickly as yours does because of our cooler zone.

I'll check their website tomorrow (not open right now) and see if I can get one. :) :)

    Thanks, everyone! :)

@rosecanadian Did you already order Scentuous? Grace Rose Farms is offering it for free with any purchase of two other roses right now.

Thanks for the enabling Meg lol

Of course I had to scurry right over t o Grace rose farm and see what they have to offer .

And darned if they didn't have several that I have Been wanting including Rouge Royal.

Sadly a moment of clarity struck and I closed the site before I ordered anything.

But the buy 2 and get another rose ( a choice between 3 ) for free is a great deal

Kristine, I was tempted by that sale too. If I didn't already have RR, I'd buy it fromfromfrom that sale!

Anything that I buy now would also have to include a pot and soil so atleast $30 per rose. I need to deal with my pot ghetto as it is.

Thanks, Meg...I just checked...they don't ship to Canada. I haven't found a single rose grower that ships here.

Kristine - you passed on Rouge Royale? Made of sterner stuff than I. :) :)

The place that offers Scentuous here doesn't open their ordering until January. :)

Carol, that just infuriates me, and as I have asked before, how is it that Hortico and Palatine are able to ship to the US so easily? Whose palms are being greased (ha, maybe)? Edwards in Boise starts taking prepayment to reserve its roses in late January (they aren't being shipped, though). The reserved roses are then moved to a special greenhouse where they live in splendor until you pick them up, which is May for me. I am usually greeted by a beautiful blooming plant(s) to take home. What an upper. Diane

I put in one plant of Scentous last spring. Meh. The plant clutched the ground, took the hottest part of the summer off from growing or blooming, the leaves are a yellowish green, and the flowers, albeit beautiful, were only faintly scented. Hopefully next year things will improve.

Wow, Ben, that's gorgeous! I was on the fence about Scentuous because I had heard the blooms shatter quickly but Grace Rose Farms had Moonlight in Paris in stock and I've wanted one since I saw pics of your beautiful specimen 😍 so I ordered that one plus Fun in the Sun and Scentuous with their buy two get one free offer. I'm very excited for spring!!!

Diane - yeah, makes me mad too. I guess it's that our population base isn't enough to support the greenhouses we have??? I don't know. It's very frustrating though. Ooooh...that's really nice...I have one place like that...they have a selection of about 10 different roses...when I do get one from them...it's a really big plant. I got Queen of Elegance and Sunsprite from them last summer. Beautiful plants. If they had a bigger selection AND let us know what roses they offer (you have to go in and see so it's hard to plan) then I would get all of my roses from them. It really does feel great to have this huge rose bush all in bloom!

Rosesmi - oh, that's too bad...I hope it improves for you...or, OTOH, you may have a spot for a new rose. :)

    Ben - that's a really beautiful bush! Mmmmm :)

Meg - they're going to be beautiful for you!

Hi - hopefuly reactivating this thread! Can anyone speak to the thorniness of Scentuous?
