I saw this at a local nursery and had to have it. The eye was such a deep maroon, the form was good, and although I don't have many (any?) eyed daylilies it said buy me all over it. Here it is showing it's orangey background color paired with Coral Corduroy:

Maryl, Cactus Jack dark eye is quite striking.

In looking though my daylily pics, I find a number that have watermarks, less with eyes. Some are striking, some are nice, adding to the overall pleasure of the flower. I'm picking the striking ones in keeping with your description, Debra.

Such eyes! I love the eyes--I think it is my favorite daylily look. I especially like Blue Swallowtail, Return to Camelot, Exotic Starfish, Quasar Cutie, Thomas Tew, and Brad's Elegant Candy seedling.

Here are a few of ours.

Breaking Lucky is relatively new to the garden. It is from Bryan Culver in Canada. His daylilies do well here.

Candy Bandit is another of Culver's intros. It's a great grower here.

Catching Fire is a nice flower, but the plant is a little iffy here. It comes up in the spring looking terrible, but it gets going and does fine. It rebloomed late in the season for us.

Here is Cherry Pie a la Mode. It has instant rebloom and a couple of people who grow it said it rebloomed late in the season for them.

Here is a seedling from Cherry Pie a la Mode. I was hoping for a red edge around the petal and a bigger eye. It is Cherry Pie a la Mode X (Stellar Stitchery X Cherry Pie a la Mode. It is a two year old seedling and this flower was on a rebloom scape.

I love this little one--Siloam Shocker.

Candy Coated Confection was a bonus. I don't know why this one isn't more well-known.

We love the contrast between the near white and the dark eyes. Here is one of the best we grow--Shipwreck Cove. It is southern bred, but it has weathered two winters here just fine.

We really like the eye on Second Horizon.

We crossed Strawberry Romance with Empire of Dawn and Dusk and got these two. We actually have many eyed ones from this cross--most of the them pretty tall with nice flowers, either near white with purple eyes or pink with red eyes. It's funny that the cross turned out so well. The seeds took forever to germinate and many didn't germinate at all. I love the bands of color in the eye of the first one.

Dave Chase Golden Glow is a nice flower on a rather short scape.

Man-eating Bat was one I was anxious to get. The flower is lovely, but the plant leaves something to be desired. I almost lost it last winter so I even bought another one just in case. I really wanted to hybridize with it.

I really love this little flower--Galaxy Explosion. We are getting some interesting babies out of it.

Putting teeth on an eyed daylily makes me happy. This is Pineapple Bites X Wandering Werribee. We hope to intro this ones in a few years.

This seedling is Purple Peek-a-boo X Burning the Midnight Oil.

I really like Von Rock X Snidely Whiplash. I just wish the stick wasn't in front of the flower.

Nan - I very much like the looks of Catching Fire, Candy Coated Confection and the second Strawberry Romance x Empire of Dusk and Dawn kid. Buckleberry Ferry and Cherry Pie a la Mode are always standouts.

Faberge Easter is one of my favorite appliques.

Core Values is a good patterned cultivar and one of my best parents. I should have several seedlings to bloom from it next year.

Gilded Butterfly has gotten attacked by grubs in recent years. I have a couple of seedlings out it that should bloom next year.

Seedling X Seedling has a huge chalky watermark and nice ruffling. I hope it will develop good plant habits in the future.

Aztec Headdress X Banded Broadbill 1 did not perform as well this year as last. I do like the patterns it shows when temps are cool.

I quite like Thomas Tew. Its first year, it was winter damaged, but has grown well since then. Heavenly Hidden Treasure is a nice one, though the picture it takes sometimes surpasses reality. Rosie with a Ring is smaller than I like, though it is still relatively new. As for Stenciled Infusion, it has added one fan in three years, has low bud count, and is more like 5 rather than six inches. Laura recently posted a clump of hers. She has gotten multiplication, but I see that hers also has low bud count. SI will get one more year here; I have little patience with cultivars that don't clump or have low bud count.

Gavin Petit shows well in the garden, though it has a somewhat sprawling plant habit. I am wondering how progeny Mayan Warrior grows; its color is certainly fetching. (Don't think that Nan reads later posts.)

Warmer Climes is upfacing like parent Clarity of Vision. Too soon to evaluate further.

Point of Divergence has an eye that contrasts nicely with the cream segments.

Lonesome Jaguar has done well here, though could stand a few inches in height.

Fabulous Black Pearl throws nice blooms, but bud count and vigor are limited. Is above the foliage.

Mantis - I really like the looks of Chico Tim in your garden! It's too bad Stenciled Infusion has not multiplied better for you. It's a good multiplier here. It used to have higher bud counts and rebloom here until the grubs got to it. I hope it will be back to better plant habits next year. Sam Abell was fantastic two seasons ago, but I don't even remember seeing it bloom this past year.

Candy Coated Confection looks very interesting, but it is no wonder it isn't better distributed--no one has it for sale, and Ridder doesn't have a website.

Mantis, I love the look of Fabulous Black Pearl. Too bad it isn't more vigorous. I've had at least 4 different daylilies with this type of large eye coloring and they all were not vigorous as well. Two, whose names escape me, were also utterly destroyed by the sun. Remembered Kisses is very nice as well.

Debra, I need to reiterate how much I love those 2 seedlings I mentioned above. Again they caught my eye!

Nancy, this time Dave Chase Golden Glow caught my eye as well as the ones I already mentioned.

Mantis, you are right. I sometimes don't get around to reading later posts.

Mayan Warrior grows well for us although it is on short side. It it increases nicely too. It took it a while to show a good bud count. Gavin Petit did well for us for a few years and then went into a decline. I would say Mayan Warrior grows more like its other parent Pumpkin Prince.

I was lucky to receive Candy-coated Confection as a bonus plant. I made a purchase from the hybridizer on the Lily Auction of Peppy, I believe. I had seen the entry in the database of CC Confection and would have purchased it too, but it was not offered. Fortuitiously, I received it as a bonus. It has taken awhile to clump up and it blooms later than midseason for us. It was wonderful last summer, blooming about the same time as our late bloomers. We got some seeds with it as a parent.
