the pictures we have are too realistic and dont fit the wall in my opinion.

I will eventually choose the one we both like most but would love to hear ideas as of what type of artwork matches this area (a picture, something else, neutral, color..). and also practical ideas,, so many decisions to make, advice is a blessing for me

Art is very individual, so a lot of us hesitate to recommend specific pieces, but I use food themed art in my kitchen. If this appeals to you as well, do a search on art.com for pictures that have a food theme: wine, fruit, etc. You could also add shelves if the cabinet on the wall perpendicular could still open if there were shelves next to the window.

I like chispa’s post about using more personal art. If you have some good photos, I highly recommend an app called Waterlogue that transforms photos into watercolor paintings.

I'd probably start by replacing the hanging light with something more decorative -- maybe like the woven pendant light in ffpalms photo. It looks like windows on either side open inward, so the light should not hang too low.

My friend hung in a narrow space on her kitchen wall, just like yours, an art skateboard deck. There are many artists who have made them. It is really unexpected and looks great.

There are some great Warhol soup cans and Basquiat boards that have a zing of pink that would look great with your Kitchen Aid.

Perhaps something of this style, I think it would give a cozy touch that you're aiming for.

Why don't you show the entire kitchen? Add a few photos of the rest of your home. Show some art you own that is " too realistic" .

What is my point?

The reliance on others to put the " you " into your space is generally a fail. It's almost like asking "what should I have for lunch"?

Perhaps the space could have two floating shelves and a couple things atop those shelves that were a gift, or something you picked up on a vacation! Maybe some piece of art you own is fabulous there!

We are not you. You have to lose the idea that there is a right or a wrong to art, or an accessory, or a collection, or anything else that speaks to you or you simply enjoy looking at.

Maybe you just want it to feel natural and a bit boho.......add to the float shelves. Get the plants off the counter. Do ONLY plants and shelves.....re pot to unify their containers to al clay or a color or whatever. Or lean some framed photos on additional shelves, friends, family etc!

i appreciate your comment so much. i muat addmitt, in the past, i thought i made some nice designing decisions in my home.. yet, everytime i shared a dilemma on this platform or another, i realised things were wrong- comments about the color mixes, type of rug, lighting decisions etc. so on one hand there is my preferations- the colors i like, style etc, and on the other hand, there are some kind of designing guides/ baselines that i might be missing out sometimes..

I understand that. But you can't defer your preferences to a community of total strangers. Asking for instance......" why does my room not feel inviting or function well could be that you have not enough furnishings, or they exist in a size and scale that overwhelms your room. Or all the furnishings are dark, leaving the room feeling gloomy....or your rug is too small for the room size. But nobody here, or anywhere ELSE can tell you what to like,

In a nutshell, that is the entire problem with all social media. You HAVE an opinion, a preference. ........use it. Don't wait for some arbiter of style or the thought police to tell you what that preference or opinion IS.

Why? Because there will always be someone lurking who disagrees ; has a different opinion/preference to which THEY are are equally entitled. But in all ways, you are entitled to yours. ......and the hell with anyone here or elsewhere who shall disagree: )

Agree that this type of decor is personal but it can be helpful to hear ideas - if it were me i would hang 2 or 3 (depending on the size) vintage bread or cutting boards in different shapes - they’re simple & warm with some patina (which can be a lovely touch in a kitchen) and inexpensive - i would likely hang them stacked vertically

There will always be taste discrepancies, given we are drawn to different things. Here’s my two cents, given you expressed designed/cozy and suggest considering its entirety.

You could add corner shelving or place next to window and remove plants from counter.
