Pot storage in this kitchen

Ive always liked hanging pots, but ive never had a kitchen where it works. What do you think about a pot storage setup like the one pictured below? Will it look good and is it as functional as it seems?

We also have these 4 photos (parsley, sage sage, rosemary, and thyme. Do they work where ive marked them up? Will they clash with the pot storage?

TIA for any suggestions!

I like the prints on the wall. As for the pot rack, I think you have a lot of items out in this area and that creates a lot of visual clutter. There is no place for the eye to rest. I'm sure not all of these items are in their permanent spots. If you were to place most of the items that are currently on the table and countertops inside the kitchen cabinets and remove the bookcase at the end of the table then I think the pot rack would work.

You'll need to be happy in your home, but I have enough issues with clutter without hanging tools on the walls. I much prefer a cleaner look. I think your art would look nice, but with the pot rack would just look really cluttered.

The pots will look better in those great drawers!

Your kitchen is lovely, and has a clean Danish Modern vibe. The herb pictures will look great.

My pots and pans are blackened on the bottom which would make them unattractive to look at hanging on the wall. The insides of mine are not that new-looking either. So mine would not look all pristine like they do in your photo of the pot rack. What do the bottoms or insides of your pots and pans look like and how will that look with the rest of your kitchen ?

Thanks for the insight! We just moved in so hopefully it wont stay so cluttered for long 😀 we’ll hang the pictures and clean up, then will see if it still feels too busy, but the plan will be to keep them in the drawers.

My wife is a pastry chef, so the pots definitely take some abuse!

I love pot racks. Function first. It is so easy to grab your most used pots. You can use the rack you have pictured. I have pot bars because the pots lay flatter against the wall. You could layer them. I would put the pictures somewhere else in the kitchen. I think both together would be to much.

If I had pots hanging on the wall I’d have to clean them before I used them to get dust or smudge off them first, as I just don’t use all my pots all of the time. Which is much less functional than grabbing them from the drawer where live.

I did this for some extra storage in my kitchen but only the nicest looking things on there . I think pot racks are a great way to get things where you use them but not if all yu have a grubby old aluminum pots . I certainly would not do the pots and the art on that smae space you show . IMO take a way the book case at the end of the island ado a peoper cabinets for pots I think in that space unless you hang the pots very high you will be hitting your head on them all the time Maybe a pot rack above the island might work better . Waht do you have in those drawers which usually are used for pot storage next to the range,

Given the pots take abuse as you say, they may be handy but not great to look at. Maybe use the bookcase for small pots and pastry items, etc

In regards to the prints, I think their placement will emphasize all the empty space on rest of wall. What about centering on wall in format below (and cut out kraft paper to test placement).

MDLN, we like your idea a lot! weve been looking but havent found something like that for sale yet. We have a lot if storage space as a couple used to living in a studio. ill add a photo of the extra storage space that didnt make it into the first pic. thats probably where we would put an ’in cabinet’ rack.

latifola, i love your setup! thats very close to what we were originally dreaming of. Having it over the stove makes everything make a lot more sense. for better or worse we have a lot of windows where that would go :)

patricia, we do have a lot of room. we havent filled the drawers yet. we used to have a speed rack but it doesnt really work in this layout. I think that bookcase is pretty dumb, and would remove it if i could as a bunch of folk suggested, but the previous owners built it into the electrical, so it looks like a project.

maureen, i think we could use that bookshelf to display some of the fun pastry tools, thats an excelleny idea. My wife has been thinking about the blank space to the left of where we want the prints. we do need to fill it with something. that is our dining room so we want something that feels like a ”break” to give the room a different feel. we dont have a table yet so havent thought hard yet!

This is where we could put a hidden pot hanging rack. Ill update the thread if i can find one

I saw the subject heading “Pot storage in this kitchen” and thought ”Well I wouldn’t keep it there even if it were legal.” Oops Oops.

Spammie - It’s legal here though I don’t store it in the kitchen. Lol

MDLN - The idea to hang pans in the upper cabinets is interesting! Do you know the specifications? Specifically, who sells those hooks and how deep those upper cabinets are?

Your first picture with the tall square made me think of Julia Child's pegboard. That could be cool in your space. If not that, then maybe two rows of pots. I think pots + prints might look too crowded but you'll have to see after you hang your pots. Maybe just one print, or one above another instead of all four.

I always thought I wanted hanging pots until I actually had them. Got tired of the cluttered look and dusting in short order.

In your kitchen, I would store them in those great deep drawers that you have left & right of the cooker. Which is how I store mine now. I love the convenience of having them located exactly where I will be using them.

I prefer closed storage for cookware. I have pared down to my favorites but still have a fair amount. I use all of them over a months time but obviously not all every day. If I left the out for a week or 2 I would to wash’s before using.
Plus, so many eye- candy pot rack/ pegboard pics have gleaming SS or copper pots and often matching. Not my cookware.
I use the stove warming drawer for my most- used skillets- mostly non-stitch for eggs & sauces. I’m lucky to have some drawers and fit the other most- used pots & skillets there. For big pots I use cabinet shelves & locate accessibility by frequency of use.
I say if you just moved, give yourself some recovery time and just get started putting things wher seem best at first. I move a year ago and some of my “ put aways” were right on target & still in same place, & other things over time I had “ aha” moments about where to relocate. I have some old- style cabinets as lowers & blind corners and not all lend themselves to retrofitted pullouts, but I gradually figured out how to optimize easiest access, heavy vs lightweight items, seasonal/ holiday vs everyday and so on.
I do use various organizing accessories ( stackers, turntables, dividers)?) because I had a carload from having to adapt in prior house cabinetry , as well as food storage containers, so I kept all those in boxes ( yay for garage space) & went “ shopping “ from my supplies first, but did buy some new items after seeing what worked & fit better. So you might try out placement & take measurements for any space- maximizers.

I have a pegboard a la Julia Child. I love it but it doesn’t look that nice when you cook on a gas stove, which I do. The bottom of the pans are pretty not nice looking.

I finally got around to figuring out the pot storage. I think it works! Do you?

There is still a question of how to utilize the rest of that space. Maybe some floating shelves along the right wall for spices. And a cutting boards or placemats under.

We also took the advice and removed the bookcase, which feels a lot less cluttered! Other than that we’re now trying to make the dining room come together and need some help! There is a lot of empty wall going on here and a good amount of empty space too. Some ideas we had: a bar cart or rack (currently our ‘bar’ is up top, you need a footstool to pour a drink, dangerous combo 😄), some display shelving, bright colors. Fairly stumped right now so any advice is great!

Ignore the pizza oven in the corner, that will be moved.

Another idea is some more seating, we’ve noticed friends tend to congregate in the dining room, even standing, the living room usually stays empty. Maybe because we always have so much food.
