Air leak in Window track

We have a set of Double hung Vinyl windows that face West and typically have West winds blowing on them. When its windier out we can feel some air leaking in from the area pictured below where the window slides along. They are only 2 years old. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to help seal them up a little bit in the winter. Thanks in advance.

If you’re not going to open them up in the winter, just cut some little pieces of foam rubber slightly oversize and push them into those gaps in the track.

Most poorly designed DH will have that air leak there. Hence the reason the pros on here will stress the importance of a tight window. You can look for some backer rod foam or look for some chimney blockers. What brand window is that?

Thanks for the ideas with the foam. It makes me feel a little better hearing that this is a common spot to feel air leak. The leak is coming from that Inner channel where the sash slides up and down through, blowing toward where the sashes meet. These are Simontin windows.

I will also say we live on a hill with no trees around and this wall can get a lot of wind against it, which is when we notice the leak more but I am trying to minimize this if it's fairly simple solution.

Easy fix. Just stuff something into that corner for the wintertime. First time you want to open the window in the spring, pull it back out.

You need V Strip(Tension seal), weatherstripping....a.k.a - V Channel for that area. Just google it.

Looking in this channel there is a plastic piece with a screw into the frame, does that piece need to be adjusted at all, or just put the V strip seal inside the channel?

We have the same issue with our west windows. We live in an open field in SW Ohio. That last storm that came through with those winds actually pushed snow through the cracks! These windows are about 20 years old so I know it’s time for them to be replaced.

Maybe easy fix ,but shouldn’t the weather striping or the fuzzy striping be under some kind of warranty ? and shoving foam down there for the winter , what about the summer months hot air comes through also .

HU-737742337 Did you read Windows on Washington's reply from 2 YEARS ago? That is the weak point in builder grade windows. There is no weatherstrip that goes in that part of the window.
