Simple lines is best for base your inspiration photo with white table has a lot going on with the base…not the best for your style going on in your space.

Found this image on Serena & Lily site..nice look with upholstered chairs…lower right table on Wayfair for $600

That is essentially a hallway a reverse foyer. 10 x 8 with doors on two sides, french to exterior porch. It hardly seems a convenient spot traipsing around a peninsula? Where do you dine now?

I'd buy a pretty writing table, put it under that picture. Use one of the chairs! Put the other alongside if you must keep both.

Put a lamp on the desk, add a rug you like in ....5 x 7 and not try to block, or fill the middle.

    Can't find you a great picture......adjust : )!!

But I would not do as you're planning

What is the size of the dining area?

Got it! About 10x8….A table and four chairs needs at least a 10x10 space so I think the two chairs with smaller round table would be so nice…beautiful place to sit and have coffee and see the back yard..looks like a sun porch is beyond the doors…nice to completely open up for gatherings.

Can we see your art..looks so interesting…great colors too!

@Home Interiors with Ease, is that a Noir Graff coffee table? I just ordered one for my family room. Got a good deal during holiday sales. Has the top been durable?

Chispa…yes it is! We love it..so far so good…with active small kids I would say no..or get a glass protective top made…I found that Endust spray works best on the finish..and as always with anything black it needs rustling often.

Jan as you can see it does have a chandelier hanging for over a table looks like the builder intended it to be a small dining area looking out to the back yard…I like it!

I swear to God, there are some "pros" here that I cannot fathom hiring for even the smallest job. Likely nobody else can either, since they seem to have a great deal of time to spend online being sh!tty to people.

Trust your original instincts, Sunfeather. Your plan for this space is a great one, and your home is absolutely lovely.

I am a retired Pro..and home caring for my husband after a hunting accident in October..I have nothing but time and a passion for design. I love this space and can see the homeowner enjoying such a pretty area with a small table and chairs.

Don’t let other posters bother you…the threads are open for suggestions..I like to just make my suggestions….Ida just have fun..and continue to support the thread and your personal suggestions. I found over the last 10 years on this site the homeowners usually love as many suggestions as possible and sometimes gets inspired by different ideas they never thought of.🤗

Well... I have participated here for at least two decades and I do have fun (else I wouldn't bother), and have met folks here that are very dear to me. That said, the consistent nastiness from a number of so-called "pros" has denigrated what was once a safe, kind, and helpful place, and many of us aren't going to let them run it completely into the ground. Thus we speak up.

It's important because some who aren't familiar with this place tend to give more weight to what the pros post. Truth is, there are pros, wannabe pros, outright hacks, and knowledgeable amateurs here, with no one "voice" any more important than another. Particularly when the "pro" is demonstrably nasty... it just needs to be said.

Sorry for the derail, Sunfeather! Let's get back to your beautiful room.

Thanks, Ida. Damn the trolls, full speed ahead :-). How is your house coming along? You may remember I lived in New Mexico but we had to move due to the altitude and allergies. I miss it. We sold most of our furniture with the house so I've got a lot to do. Home, we certainly weren't speaking of you. Keep those suggestions coming and I'm so sorry about your husband.

I do remember you living in NM! I'm so sorry you had to leave but hope you're happy in your new home. It looks absolutely beautiful! Acquiring a lot of new furniture should be fun and I hope you'll share more of your adventure here!

My current house is pretty much as I want it to be ... for now! We are closing on a small bit of acreage in NM this week, and although it will be some time before we do anything with it, I find myself dreaming about mountain homes and perusing plans and ideas online. Someday, someday!

Sunfeather, I really like that one! It's not "overdone" style-wise, but the scale and heft of it seem to be just right with your chairs.

Very pretty — I think any of the three you’ve shown go well with the style of your house and other furniture. I like the curves with your chair style.

My choice for your room would be the cream colored bases, but that’s just my own personal preference. You have excellent taste, I know it’s going to look great whatever you decide.

Ida, that table is from Zimmerman. They have many types of finish options and it is solid wood crafted in the USA. Here is a link to FInish Options

Yes it is a mix of real and manufactured….I have seen it in high end homes as a entry table…the finish is very pretty…but I understand…does Nicolas & Stone offer any other pedestal designs?

Mavin Furniture makes similar base. They have large selection of wood and painted finishes.

I'm starting to wonder if I need a breakfast area and maybe I should consider doing something different in that area. It is the first thing you see from the front door.

Well, it's not a foyer but sounds like a sightline upon entrance. It could be a quaint chat space perhaps? Sounds like if you don't need a breakfast nook, then the possibilities are endless. I think what Home Interiors with Ease has got going for you, would look very inviting and warm.
