As for a white, yes, go with Pure White. Suggestion, paint the ceiling Pure White, too, but in a flat finish.

@raee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio it must really be the pics :( my floors are very warm beige-taupey with mocha, caramel & greige spots. The walls are a chamaleon color, sometimes look cool, sometimes warm. The wood trim is going to stay and I was planning on tying it in with the island light fixture, shelves of the same color & a small breakfast nook with a butcher's block in the same color + island stools.

@elcieg yes natural trim wood, doors & round the window and patio doors shall remain. The floors are also warmer colored. My ceiling is already pute white :) I fear the pure white will make the counter look "dingey" as the backgroun is not a very crisp white. they are silestone calacatta gold with grey & gold veins. what do you think?

Are you keeping the white appliances? Then I would focus on matching that white. Greek Villa will be yellow compared to the appliances. Unless you’re running your countertop up the wall, it won’t be on the same plane as the cabinet doors and won’t be as obvious in comparison to appliances. Hold the samples to a 90 degree angle to the countertops to see how they look. The light will hit them differently at different angles. Even Pure White may look off white compared to appliances, but check to be sure (it’s an off white, but doesn’t look as yellow as GV). Also the yellow of GV may fight with the pink tones in your floor. If it were me, I’d paint the trim to match the cabinets. It’s just one more color in your existing palette.

@Susie . all our appliances are stainless except dishwasher which eventually we are getting a stainless cover for so will be stainless in appearance :) Backsplash is going to be the same as the counter (& island) : silestone calacutta gold. off-white background with gold & grey veins. We've decided to keep the trim wood-tones which is like that all across the house : doors, baseboards, fireplace, radiator covers. trying to do the best we can to modernize with paint. I’m having my cabinets SW pure white. There’s no noticeable undertone. If your ceiling is already SW pure white, I’d stink with it. I’d go to a paint store and talk to the color consultant. Good luck!

Agree that Pure White is much more neutral looking than Greek Villa (which is more of a cream). I think it would work better with your floors.

Hi @Fey P. We haven’t started yet. Our construction is set to start January 16, and finish in 10-12weeks. I had to pick everything beforehand, so our contractor can order everything and have it prior.

I’m no color consultant. I’d pick pure white and did (lol) bc it looks the most bright white w/o being stark white. The square looks pink/grey, and the triangle looks slightly yellow. I’d go with the color that matches your countertop, which looks pretty white to me!

When comparing, does one color look more dirty/clean/dingy compared to the other? I’d go with the one that matches your countertop.

I suggest taking the board to Sherwin-Williams with a sample of your countertop and get the color person thoughts. Show them pictures too. That’s what I did with my countertop (Hanstone Montauk). I think BM white dove is super popular too. It looks pink to me though.

When do you need to decide by? You could always hire a color consultant too! I’d go with the white you like the most. Idk I’ve been stressing about colors too!! Driving my hubs mad!!

@Ashley I was supposed to have a decision yesterday lol about both color and sheen which I'm now unsure about because I've read that SW makes sheens differently than other companies. I.E. that their semi-gloss is really a satin

I actually did have an appointment with a color consultant by zoom yesterday but though the person meant well, said that both pure white and greek villa work but that colors aren't always what they appear on screens & light variations change everything. I think we've eliminated snowbound because at times, it appears more of a cool grey-taupe than a warmer color and that might clash with the warmer tones in the room. I also feel you about my hubby. he is annoyed at my indecisiveness on this but equally goes back and forth haha. We're young newlyweds so a do-over is not at all in the budget, which is why I absolutely stress about getting it right- I don't want to hate my kitchen and will have to live with it... What finish and line of paint have you picked? thanks for your input, which I appreciate!

You asked for all opinions so here’s mine.

The wall color is a mistake. It’s cool toned. But other things are warm toned or pure white. Therein lies the problem.

Our contractor uses a lacquer and says SW offers colors in lacquer. He gets his colors from Dunn-Edwards.
My notes from researching the internet says:
Walls (washable flat finish)
Trim (semi-gloss)
Cabinets (satin)

Have you looks at BM white dove? It’s super popular on Instagram. Is there a nearby paint store you can go to? I went to the local Sherwin-Williams and talked to the color consultant. There was another paint store I went with and she also said to use SW pure white.

Which color does your hubs like?

We’re not newlyweds, but we’re renovating our 70s house kitchen (which is falling apart) and I know my hubs will not make changes/redo the renovation either! Haha

In some of your pictures your wood flooring appears to have more greyish pink undertones compared to the warmer yellow/orange wood tones of your trim/doors. That grabs my attention more than the tone of whites you're comparing for cabinets. Is the kitchen open to other rooms or fairly enclosed? If it is not very open to other rooms you could consider painting the trim and doors in the kitchen the same white you choose for your cabinets and leave the trim and doors in rest of the house alone as you prefer.

For what its worth I like the snowbound best of the whites you're considering and love Sea Salt (my kitchen is a similar color)!

@littlebug Zone 5 Missouri I love the color and it does appear warm at times in kitchen (more sagey green) but you might be right. If the cabinets clash, I much rather paint the walls over than have the cabinets repainted (in warehouse) though. Thank you for your input!🙏

@Ashley The people painting my cabinets only use SW colors, that's why I haven't looked at other companies' colors, but also read great things about white dove. Hubs goes back and forth, he likes greek villa but not sure if they will look yellow compared to counters. He thinks pure white is safe but blah lol. Hopefully everything will turn out great for both of us 🙏 thanks for your help!

@Hope Stewart indeed, the floor colors are very mixed warm & cool tones. There are also a lot of mocha brown-caramel and grey lines in them. The kitchen is open onto the dining room and hall, all of which have the same oak trims and doors. Kitchen-dining room-living room are all open except one door separating kitchen from dining which remains open most of the time, esp. when entertaining. In our living room, we have a huge bay window and fireplace and you guessed it- orange oak.

I actually got samples of snowbound because it's supposed to be a great match with seasalt, but found in my kitchen that it brought out the violet undertones of snowbound too much and that it looked more like a very pale grey rather than a warm white which is what I wanted it to. I know lighting matters a lot though and this room is South west but with not a lot of natural light. Thank you for your input!🙏

Picking paint can be hard, I know! There are so many considerations with light and undertones etc! I'm struggling picking a new color in a room that has large french doors facing east and large windows facing west.

So it appears in the pictures that the kitchen is separated from dining by one regular sized door- but no large openings or missing walls, correct? And then the dining room and living room beyond that are open to one another? If there are no open walls or large/wide cased openings between kitchen and any other room I would definitely paint the wood trim/door in kitchen only. I would paint the kitchen side of the door (and its trim/casing) between dining room and kitchen white and leave the other side stained. (So that each side matches within the room it is in/facing.) Again, using whatever white you choose for the cabinets. Since there is no larger view from the dining room/living room into the kitchen the trim being white will not be that noticeable in amongst all the white from the cabinets and counters!

ETA- I don't hate wood trim at all and I don't hate your wood trim- its just competing/clashing with your new floors. Since I know that the floors are not changing, it is easiest to paint the trim/doors in the kitchen. The wall color looks good with both the floor and the counters and you can choose a white that will look good with everything else.

I just gotta say, alarms go off for me when I see "creamy white," because so many people with that dream come back here shocked by how yellow their cabinets look in the context of all their cool finishes. i suggest listening to the people trying to help you find the right solution...

I think Sea Salt works well with warm wood tones. You do have different wood tones playing against each other, and you may want to paint out the window trim to help from having it stick out too much. Here are some white and off white kitchens with wood floors and sea salt. The greens in sea salt will bring out the pink in your floors, so I would pick a more neutral white (pure white). It’s not a white white, but it doesn’t usually look yellow (oil paint will go a little yellow over time, though). The one with the blue couch has floors that are similar tones to yours. Usually you pick wall paint last, after your fixed elements are chosen. Most important to choose cabinet paint that works with your floors and countertops.

@Hope Stewart thanks for your advice! no opening straight from kitchen to dining room no and then dining room and living room are open on each other. I'll keep your advice in mind thank you. For sure it's in the plans to sand down trims and use the same wood stain so the trimmings are the exact same shade of oak

@Susie .I do too, but I'm def a newbie and could be wrong! I asked her & the color consultant from SW told me that seasalt works with our trims & floors because of the green it has in it. Thank you to all, we have decided to play it safer and are going to have them painted in Pure white. I think this will allow for maximum versatility. If we find seasalt clashes too much once they go up + brushed gold hardware, the oak shelving & breakfast counter-butchers block over the radiator and stools & lighting fixture over island incorporating both wood and gold touches, then we will just paint walls over in a more neutral color that will better match the wood & the pure white cabinets.

**Now remains the question** : PLEASE HELP : considering the professionals spray painting our cabinets only use SW colors, and pure white is the color chosen- what finish would you choose for the kitchen cabinets? We have no children or pets, but both cook a lot.

Either gloss will be fine - both hold up to washing/wiping. It just depends on which pleases your eyes the most - subtle shine or higher (but not high) shine?

Your paint store, and/or your professional painters should be able to tell you which line is best for cabinets. IIRC it actually isn't any of the "interior" lines, I believe that S-W makes paints specifically for cabinets that will be more durable - necessary for high-touch, high-use surfaces. Perhaps those "enamels" are good, but I would ask the store.

My cabinetmaker used a catalyzed conversion finish, which is supposed to be the best for durability and stain resistance (regular interior paint can be stained by spills and splashes!) He was able to perfectly match my color choice.

hello all, wanted to thank you all again for your help! I went with pure white in a satin finish (20% gloss) and received a sample which I love and think compliments my kitchen well. Backsplash in calacutta gold has also gone in and love that as well. I should be receiving and installing cabinets in a few weeks and will be sure to upload pics in case I can help anyone else! My next project is choosing main bathroom tile so if you want to jump on board that wagon and give me your opinions, I would love that! thanks so much again 🙏🙏

How did the pure white end up on the cabinets? I am dealing with the cabinet color issues with Calcutta gold cabinets
