It seems to me the sofa could move back 2 or 3 feet and open up the Living Room. Place a side table and lamp for it where the dresser is. Then move the Dining set closer to the Kitchen and/or rotate it.

You would then have room for an easy chair/armchair, or a loveseat/settee facing away from the Kitchen in an L shape with the sofa. Then figure out your rug size.

The rug, framed artwork between the windows to the right of the TV, and throws/throw pillows all in coordinating colors is all you really need. Beautiful home by the way.

With neutral furniture and walls, you could really go anywhere with this. What styles do you like?

@sahar, I like a lot of them (transitional, traditional, modern farmhouse, mid century modern, bohemian, Mediterranean, and Scandinavian) and can't decide. I also want to place a hanging lamp over the dining room table and maybe over the kitchen counter (maybe it is too much)

Have you considered maybe flipping the dining table so it is horizontal to the wall instead of vertical as it is now? It might open up more room to the living room. The sofa is a little bulky (cozy) and could be pushed back a bit. It definitely needs a rug and a throw atleast. Your dining chairs look scandinavian/MCM. I think a nice round chandelier or staggered pendants would look nice. Perhaps a rug under the dining table as well. Dark table lamps with light shades would draw the eyes away from the big sofa. I think glass tables or light wood, would also brighten the room.

I think if you have a simple drum shade fixture over the Dining table and a cylindrical pendant over the counter it wouldn't be too much.

If you move the furniture as suggested you could place something in the Bay Window area...side table/game table between smaller armchairs for example.

And you have room next to the front door for another piece of framed art.

The credenza can go on the wall with the thermostat. Place the glass front bookcase between the windows where the floor lamp is. Move the floor lamp to the Bay Window area for whatever you end up putting there.

Just some ideas of different combinations. The bulb chandelier might be too much so I added a more linear nordic style chandelier and MCM/modern pendants in soft gold finish for over the bar. I think if you keep the items neutral and add color with Art and pillows, it will be easy to switch out decor.

I like the idea of continuing your concept of white and wood tones in your room.

I think if you move the sofa back, you might have room for a 9x12 rug? It would define your living room and make it feel more spacious. I love this one from Ruggable in Hazel. It would work with the white/wood tones concept yet is still neutral and bright. It was warm and cool tones in it so it would work with any decor or furnishings. I have provided the link.

The space between the windows to the right of the TV feels like the center of the Living room, and artwork there would be a dramatic focal point to define the space and draw the eye away from the TV as you enter.

This framed canvas of blossoms would be lovely and again ties in the white/wood tone theme. It has a nice touch of blue/green for contrast. I chose 2x3 that would be as large as possible in that location.

The website is promoting it on sale right now. I don't know if the ad is targeted but it is offering it to me at $190 framed which is a great deal. We have some of their canvas prints and they are very nice quality. The gold frame is very rich looking. I have provided the link.

With the orange bar chairs a pinkish coral or terra cotta is going to be tough. I don't know what to call the color of these throws and pillows but the rustier tone I think is better than the pinkish throw in your example.

I added some concept pieces. The square wall art would be better off on the thermostat wall or the one shown. A rectangular piece is needed to get the proper scale between the windows.

@tracefloyd thanks for the concept! So  this is the color for the blanket I ordered. I m going to start the living room restructure by adding a console table behind the sofa, moving back the sofa, removing the white furniture (and moving that to the kitchen), a carpet (maybe 2, one for the entrance and one for the living area) and finding a lamp that suits the whole composition. How big should the living room rug be? Should it be big to be under the sofa too, or centered in the living area? Ideas are welcome!

So the console table or sideboard would be under this sofa

I would like to see the front edge of the sofa placed where the right side of the dresser is, so it opens up the Bay Window area completely. The Bay Window is the star of the Living Room and should be the prominent architectural feature and not blocked off.

Then decide between a side table against the wall or a console behind sofa, or both. Either way, you will want a runner for the entry.

You then need to decide want you want in front of the Bay Window. Like a small settee and a nice big houseplant for instance. Also probably a coffee table and side chairs facing the Bay Window in an L with the sofa. Only once the floor plan is laid out should you decide on the proper size for the Living Room rug.

And what size and placement of the table lamps. Also see if the coffee table and sofa works centered with the large art between the windows for symmetry.

The bookcase on the thermostat wall should be moved to where the floor lamp currently is and rotate the Dining table 90 degrees. Thanks for the photos, please post more with the sofa moved, the Dining tabel rotated and the bookcase between the window.

These are very nice. The first one has a lighter, more open feel. With the sofa moved back, it will be a narrower hallway and the bookcase might seem too bulky.

I envision shades of white and wood tones in this room. And you have a gray sofa, so white or cream would be nice. I like the idea of a laid-back chaise for watching TV or gazing out the window. Here's a thought:

Better. I'm still hoping to see the sofa pulled back a foot. It's still cramping the Bay Window area. I'd like to see the left window wall opened up. You might have to sacrifice the console behind the sofa but that's okay.

I like the idea of 2 comfy armchairs facing away from the Dining Room in an 'L' shape with the sofa to define the Living Room further.

Then for the Bay, two small side chairs or two ottomans with the table between them that could double as a game table. Or maybe a recliner or a Barcelona bench there? Maybe just some nice houseplants.

You have a lovely space and can do so many different things with it.

May I ask why there are so many pillows on your sofa? Does that make it difficult to sit in it? Have you thought about removing the ones in the middle and adding a a couple at each end that have some color?

I love the sofa, but am just curious.

I know this is sectional but I love how they did the throw and decorative pillows.

I’ve been following along and am wondering about furniture placement. Have you tried rotating your dining table 90 degrees. Then moving the couch to face the bay window. I love the chair you posted above so two of those might work where the couch used to be. Just a thought - hard to tell from pictures if this would work with your space.

@lisilane, yes, we moved the table thanks to the suggestions in this thread and we like it better. We tried the sofa behind the dining table, but it was too bulky, we did not like it

I really love how spacious the Living Room feels this way. Don't you think the Bay Windows look fantastic?

It's so difficult to tell by photos if the space is balanced, does the entry feel too cramped? Maybe move the sofa away from the Front door a few inches and closer to the camera. And how does it look with the middle cushion centered on the new focal point between the windows? It's nearly impossible to micro-manage the furniture placement without being in the room but very slight changes can make a big difference.

I like those two armchairs. I like the white but not sure about gray. What about a pale tan/brown or shade of earth tone instead. I envision a warm color scheme with white and wood tones and earth tones in this space...like the tan blanket you pictured.

It looks like a carpet about the width of the recessed Bay Window area would work. Tape out your two armchairs and carpet on the floor before your order them for the proper size and placement.

Better. Love your two armchairs. I'm not liking the sofa shoved up against the wall at all...so cramped. Remember every inch counts. You can move the set up at least a foot towards the dining table and have room to get by no problem. 18 inches if you can move the dining table 6 inches toward the kitchen.

Leave 12 to 18 inches between the sofa and the wall. And line up the two chairs so they are centered with the window. Hang the large artwork to the left ot the window as the feature focal point. Your living room will feel twice as large.

Just chiming in again with something else to maybe try. What would it look like to once again rotate the dining table but push one end against the kitchen counter. You would have to nix the counter stools which I do really like but I wonder if you sit there often? They look a bit crowded but hard to tell from pics. The overhang on your countertop there doesn’t look deep but, again, hard to tell from pictures. Another idea would be to keep table as is currently but push one end against the windows. Again, just arrangements to play with but might free up space. Or might not look great at all….

Some updates. So we got a new media console and we tried different ways to place the furniture. We gave a try to move the sofa to the other location, played with the dining table in different positions (we are sticking to leave it paralell to the sofa). Any feedback on what position works best for the chairs?

The first one is better for watching TV, so I would use that one...practical. Plus I like the arrangement.

@tracefloyd, love the ruggable carpet you recommended us a while ago. We ended up with this set up because we got a bench from some friends that fits very well at the entrance. We just ordered an mcm - walnut irregular mirror that will go on top of the bench at the entrance. I know the sofa would be better a little bit pulled back but there is not enough space in the dining area if we do so. Apologies for the messy room, but would any of this wall arts fit well? Isn't it too crowded? Any other art or deco ideas for the wall are welcome. Ty!

This room turned out so nice. Don't you love it? It feels so welcoming. I think the art looks good there...your choices have a lot of depth. Or maybe some wall decor like baskets or macrame, etc?

What about a swing floor lamp where the two armchairs can share it. Get a plant in a nice pot, on the console under the window.

You have such a lovely space. I have to say that I really liked the console under the tv. It achored it. I may have missed something, but have you considered lowering the tv a bit?

@amykath, thank you! There was a tv mounting when we arrived, so that is why it is so high. We kind of got used to it, but I totally agree that would be better a little bit lower :)
