Add a plant to the round stand, one about the same overall height that will bring it about 2/3 the ht of the etagere. The shelves need some work. You need more negative space and to vary the heights of what you have. Grouping things in odd numbers works better than in twos. Also triangle shapes look good (something tall in the center flanked by two shorter items).

Is this what we have to work with without seeing the complete space? Ok, here goes. Don’t make it top heavy. Put the large black vase on top of your gold floor stand. Remove whatever it is from the second shelf from bottom, it does nothing for the space, instead place more books on the left side of that second shelf and put the white jug on top of the books. Place the gold jug beside the books. Place the empty picture stand on top of the small wood piece to give it more height. You’ll have to get more books and accessories for the empty shelves but stagger the placement. Don’t put stuff on each shelf in a straight line.

Is this a weird corner in an upstairs closet? The end of a hallway? The black urn is too “heavy” for the top shelf. Is the gold stool/seat used for anything? If not, give it a purpose in a different location: it can hold a nice green plant in a simple spot, or a decorative sculpture. The folded fabric/tablecloth/throw rug doesn’t work. I’m thinking that the spines of the books are more interesting than the bulk of pages…a trend which needs to end unless you are signaling that the books aren’t interesting enough to identify.

I sometimes flip my books around if I don’t want to expose the binds to the sun and light but don’tvwant to put them away in a box either. depwnds on the book and the age.
