White wall woes

What to do?! Paint? Wallpaper, wood paneling? Art? I feel like we have the basics down, but I have tried so much artwork, and nothing works!

Consider turning the headboard wall into a trimmed out feature wall, painted a nice moody color.

I know its neutral and can take anything, but any suggestions? I’m weird about colors!!

Maybe Sherwin Williams Peppercorn - if you are color color adverse

But what makes the above scheme work is the soft touch of color. Don’t be afraid to do that approach w your pillows to warm it up.

Jddunha, I am curious to understand better what you mean when you say you are weird about colors. I'm sure we would all like to help if we understood better.

What strikes me as off about this room is:

    1. The bed and nightstands don't seem to be centered on the wall but rather shoved over to the windows. The bed is the focal point of the bedroom and needs to be "center-stage"... usually. Think drama and staging.

    2. The area rug doesn't seem to be wide enough for the bed plus nightstands. What happens when you turn it 90 degrees? Could be that still won't help, but had to ask.

    3. Could be the lighting, but the walls and rug look a pale really bad yellow. Is it just the lighting? Even so, that dictates a change of some kind, and there are several options, but I first think we have to figure out the yellow source.

So I think it’s the photography! The bed is dead center in the room and the nightstand’s have equal spacing on either side of the bed. The color is also very white…no yellow at all and the rug is a very pale cream. When I say I am weird about colors, I like color, but if it is anything major (like a painted accent wall) I want to be sure it flows with the rest of the spaces in the immediate vicinity. So right now, all the walls are white and there are black accents everywhere. If I added a blue wall, i would feel obligated to use shades of blue elsewhere, and I am not prepared to do that right now.

Here’s what it would look like in black:

I think the darker wall is winning.

I agree with you completely! I'm funny about color too then! I like what ginatay124 has done. I like an accent wall behind a bed; helps with making it the focal point. Increases the drama. I believe you can try different colors of "black" on websites using your own pictures. Sherwin Williams has one: https://www.sherwin-williams.com/visualizer#/active/scenes

Use the "Paint a photo" tab. You may have to download the app. Use a dark primer instead of a white one behind such a dark paint. Our local store set up a demo inside the store. Very educational. They had another one using different gloss levels. I liked semigloss for dark colors much better than flat. It gave the wall "depth".

About the rug. A different poster on a different post provided this and I saved it. So tell us if turning the rug would get it all under the tables.

And finally, I noticed another color in your room. The brown nightstands and bed legs. I like things in threes to make it look delibrate. Might you find wood frames the same color for your wall art? Another option is if you have basketry that color you could include in your "scene". It would help also to have the color of your wood floor repeated somewhere in the room a couple of times. This really isn't as important though. Just thoughts as you think about your bed wall.

And you may find this recent article inspirational. Note several bedrooms have dark walls at the head of the bed.

I love the green one! But black is good for your situation.

Agree to scoot the rug down so the nightstands are on the floor.

Consider too using wallpaper to accent the headboard wall.

Call me OCD, but it seems to me the bed is not centered on the wall.

On the left side, there appears to be 2 feet (or more) of hardwood floor showing. On the right side, there appears to be 2 or 3 inches of hardwood floor showing. It makes the right side feel squeezed.

(Yes, I’m so OCD that I’m actually CDO - alphabetical order you know.)

It is definitely the vantage point of the photo. I have to stand at the left side of the room (door) to get everything in. If I stand in the other corner, you can see that is not the case. I do agree that I should pull the rug out, but it does not leave much walkway between Rug and dresser. May need to consider a smaller rug!

Other side of the room for perspective from those who have mentioned! Appreciate all the comments. Am leaning towards a darker accent wall…maybe with trim of some kind and possibly different lighting (wall sconce or drip from ceiling). Will repost “after” once I complete!

I like the suggestion with the “molding wall”; if you don’t want to go as dark as black, consider a deep green or Narragansett Green (which reads blue with green undertones). See below (our guest room, all DIY; yes, room still needs tweaking)

Here’s another great example (found on Houzz)

I LOVE the idea of drip pendants on either side of the bed!!!!!

Dark Camel Brown or Mocha Brown would fit the style of this room very well. The furniture hits MCM and shades of brown would look nice. SW Grounded, Shearling and Rockwood Terracotta would look well.

I don't know if it too late to make an exchange but the rug is too big.

The bed isn't centered on the wall, so bedside tables are off side.

Lamps are very nice and the shades would look better black (you can spray paint the shades...just do the inside as well) against a lighter gray accent wall. Add a white comforter, folded. Add more gray art over the bed.

Thanks. The bed is centered, but the photo perspective is skewed. Thanks for the other tips!

Jddunha, after you mentioned drip pendants on either side of the bed I went looking for a photo I recently saved. I love this concept. Is this what you meant?
