What if we plan for floatinv shelves in that open space?? still keep tile to the end

I would only take it to the end of the uppers- there is no risk of wall damage here. that said there is no rule, it is personal choice

I just think it would look odd to stop it mid-countertop. Anything on the wall above, including hanging shelves will make it look cohesive with the longer backsplash.

Tile ends at the upper cabs. If you are tempted to take it past the upper cabs, then take it up 1/3 the height of the cab. (ie, don't extend it in a straight line out from the cabs).

I'd also go to end of the uppers. That open space would be nice for a coffee pot. Have open shelves start a bit higher so you can pour water. Shelves would be great for mugs/art

I had the same question and researched a lot. I went to the end of the upper cabinets only. I also left the "sidesplash" area untiled. It looks cleaner to my eye.

After seeing the rest of the kitchen I would take it to the end of cabinets, that makes it consistent throughout the room. It would be odd to have the one section tiled to the end of counter and not the corner near the ovens.

I would also not put shelves on that wall, it looks like it would be too tight with the angle of the door, could be something you might hit your head on.
