Pella window question

Has anyone ordered Pella windows lately? Pella says its 4-5 week lead time for lifestyle windows. my contractor wont’t/cant produce proof they ordered the windows the first week November like they said and are giving me the run around on timing, blaming delays on Pella and saying they have no idea when the windows will be in. Just trying to sort out some truths here and see what others experiences are with Pella in real time. I suspect the windows werent ordered but trying to think more positively than that.

" Pella says its 4-5 week lead time for lifestyle windows. "

Seeing as that 1st week of November would make this 8 weeks, even factoring in the holidays your still over that. Can he produce proof that he even ordered the windows at all? I take all manufacturers lead time with a grain of salt still to this day but he should be able to produce something with a date on it.

I totally agree this sounds so off, I’ve asked almost everyday for the order form/information/confirmation and get some story.

Did you give him the money to pay for the window order?

Giving you the run around is not okay. You need to be assertive and demand cooperation. One call every day or two is not enough. Call and tell your contractor that you need to set up a 30 minute face to face meeting at his office. Ask if 7:00 am tomorrow morning works for him. When he says no, ask him what time works for him. When he says next Tuesday, say no, I need to see you in the next 48 hours. Be assertive.

I am not sure about all the circumstances but you must know which Pella place he ordered from I would think so call them and see if they have the order date. I agree with Jennifer as to a face to face. I would be seriously thinking about any other issues you have had with this contractor and make sure all those issues are discussed and something signed to prove these issues were discussed. I do find lead times are not written stone even now discout the 23-Dec to the end of first week of Jan. Christmas always throws everything off so you are at approx 6 weeks really one week late not the end of the world. But you need proof of when he ordered. It is also really important to tell us how much was paid upfront.

"...my contractor wont’t/cant produce proof they ordered the windows the first week November like they said and are giving me the run around on timing, blaming delays on Pella and saying they have no idea when the windows will be in." Many components for residential construction projects are ordered with a phone call and lack a paper trail. I don't know of any manufacturer that has a predictable order lead time in the current environment and I wouldn't assign more credibility to Pella's claim than others. A number of my suppliers can only tell me what a component lead time is once they receive the component(s) at their dock. Partial shipments are more typical than not, and I've had more shipments of small parts lost in transit than at any other time in our 40-year corporate history.

thanks, yes paid for windows! , i would think they would get a PO number at a minimum. i have many calls into them, they are a nightmare. we are pretty upside down on payments to them, suspect they have cashflow issues. i guess we are less concerned about the delay on windows, but the lack of ability to produce any proof they were ordered is frustrating, and the ”delay” tipped me off to the possibility that they werent in fact ordered. does a contractor pay upfront in full for the windows? Id think so?

" does a contractor pay upfront in full for the windows? "

Depends who he is purchasing them from and what his credit situation would be from where he buys them. How many windows are we speaking of? Some places take deposits, some payment in full, some nothing. It all depends unfortunately, no universal answer.
