Hosta G 2022 ...................

Good morning, everyone! I hope you are all enjoying good weather. Let's see hostas that start with the letter G: In the five years that I have been doing this this page has told me that hosta is a miss spelled word. Infact to make it look like it does not exist. I wish they would update the dictionary. We are here.

Have a great weekend!!!

Paula, loved the skiing bunny joke……that one and the cat reading cracked me up!

Gary, that Gunther’s Prize is just stunning! I would love a couple of nice streakers……

sweetbetsy, that sporting Guacamole is cool……will you divide it?

bethBeth, I am loving your Great Expectations! I tried my hand at growing one and it did not last even a year….. ☹️

shadow, I think your Guardian Angel is gorgeous! I have always liked GA, but I know it’s a big one and not so sure I can squeeze it in…….how does it do with some sun???

    Here are my few Gs:

This one holds it’s color all season.

This is the only pic I could find……later in the summer the leaves get a parchment color.

    Great jokes today Paula!

    Just wow Gary.

sweet_betsy I had the same question as Debra.

Beth nice Goodness Gracious along with all your others.

Shadow your GA is showing great colour. Good on you with your GE, perseverance pays. I am convinced GE and a couple of others prefer a zone or two warmer than ours to perform really well.

Debra that is quite the change in GL Peeps. Blue Banana is terrific.

hosta_maker that GF F2 yellow is really lovely.

Ann wonderful colour on your GE. I like your GD/BA combo.

    Gemstone

    GL Mouse Cheese

Lots of great G's - You all have

    Golden Tiara

    Gold Regal (I think/hope)

    Great Expectations

    Guacamole

Gold Standard - Two divisions taken from the same mother plant, ten feet apart, pic taken on the same day.

Question - What is the "GL" designation? I don't see anything in the HL about it.

    last modified: 3 years ago

It is for Giantland. Very nice old_dirt.

Sherry good luck with your GE. They are all looking great.

If there was a Hosta named "Bacon" I would definitely buy it.

Debra- My GA only gets morning sun. That Hosta bed is slowly getting crowded out. I need to move my big monster size hosta. The GA is getting lost in the middle. I may put it in more sun. I guess I will have to decide in the coming season. Oh and I love that GL Blue Banana. ❤💗💚

Ann- I say the same thing about taking pictures. I think I do a bad job at it and then bam! I post them and I am impressed. Every one has a different style and I love.♥⭐⭐⭐

Peren- I agree that the zones do make a difference. What a cute Gold Drop seedling.😎

Sorry old_dirt, I made the assumption that folks knew what GL was. When I bought my first Giantland hosta, I didn’t know the Giantland was part of the name and went looking for “Peeps” in the HL and couldn’t find it……☺️ Also I think you are correct, your hosta does look like Gold Regal, even the flowers match.
Hosta_maker, love that Glossy Ruffles and of course drooling over the GF #2 blue and yellow. I decided I am going to have to open a savings account just for your hostas. 😉
NW, your Great Expectations has beautiful coloring…….is it a slow grower for you?
Peren, each time I see your Gemstone, I love the gray-green-blue coloring.
Sherrygirl, your Golden Tiaras look very healthy and happy where they are….I pulled mine out because they were a terrible slug magnet in my yard. Also your GE seems to be surviving just fine.

Laurie..thanks!..wish GE’s color stayed until frost..

Shadow..you made me laugh when you said you would buy a hosta named “Bacon” 😂..I was curious and checked the Hosta Library..no Bacon but I saw Bacon and Eggs..I think you’re right about pics..we criticize our own photos but others appreciate them..

debra..thanks!..Great Expectations is slower for me than quite a few of my others..as the season progresses the yellow fades..pic Oct 12 2021..

my biggest fail is Praying Hands..

Debra and Peren.all, I will probably divide my Guacamole if the green sport shows up for spring.

    sorry about your team 🙁..

It’s okay, nw. Has we made it our first game would’ve been the Bills. Feel like everyone will be rooting for them, understandably so

Paula, that does look like a rabbit on skis!!!

Gary, great GE and Gunther's Prize!

Sweet_betsy, kind of cool having a sport come out of your Guacamole!

Pretty Goodness Gracious and GE, Beth!

Shadow, your Guardian Angel is awesome!

Debra, I envy you having the Giantland hosta! Looks like they are growing well! Love that GL Blue Banana!

    Hosta_maker, love the Golden Falls!

Nicholsworth, the color on your GE is just perfect.

Peren.all, your Gemstone looks perfect in every way. The Gold Drop seedling is so cute. Wonderful amount of flowers he had! That Gold Standard has character!

Sherrygirl, nice cluster of Golden Tiara!

Old_dirt, the color difference in your two Golden Standards is something else!

Oursteelers, good coloring on your GA!

Ginsu Knife. Took me a while to get this one growing.

Just a young one, but I do rather like its coloring.

    Golden Meadows. Slow growing.

    Golden Meadows unfurling.

Lack of sunlight and tree roots has kept this Golden Sculpture from getting bigger.

Goodness Gracious. Getting a bit crowded?

    Guacamole

Moved this Guardian Angel to a prominent spot in my garden in 2021. Not impressed with the coloring in 2022. I do have another GA which has better coloring and maybe more sun. Maybe that is the key? Or all GA's are not created equal?

    Gypsy Rose

    Fantastic G!

I bought Goodness Gracious after seeing it in alphabet few years back. Seems to be a good grower, looking forward to seeing it like posts here, stunning!

Hosta maker, I have been looking for that Golden Falls and it is selling faster than I can grab it.

As Debra started me on GL hostas, here is Giantland Dawn Glow

NHL, your photos are all really good! I like the shot of your garden with GA. It shows such beautiful planning and color. I want to have more color in my garden too…..

    Oursteelers, awesome Gypsy Rose!

Lindalana, glad you are enjoying the GL hostas! GL Dawn Glow is a beauty…… love the rippled edge!
Did you you visit them, or buy online? I have wanted to go as they are about an hour away, but haven’t managed to get there yet.

oursteelers beautiful leaf shots of beautiful plants.

nhl my goodness such lovely looking plants/garden. I was happy to see GK & GM. Well, your Goodness Gracious is certainly starting to crowd out its neighbours. I have that happening in a couple of areas too. I have to completely lift the leaves of Silver Bay to get a pic of Lemon Frost. At least we know they are good growers.

    lindalana GDG is quite wonderful.

Debra, I don't do much "planning" in my garden. It just kind of evolves! I think the heuchera bring out a lot of color that just wouldn't be there without some other perennial with nice flowers. I have really begun to love heuchera and have purchased a few this year. Hopefully I will be successful with them.

Peren.all, glad to hear I have company when it comes to having to lift hosta leaves to get a good picture of another hosta! But I still evny the room you have to grow plants---and you certainly do it well!

Yes, I've heard that all Guardian Angels are not created equal. It is the one Hosta that should be bought in person. Of course, I bought mine online but when it never looked much like GA, the seller replaced it for me and the new one looks great. So, a reputable dealer really helps too. (Hostas-store).

    GL Peeps

    GL Skylight Bowl

G Symmetry - very well behaved

    Some more Gs

    Galaxy

Gila River - such an unusual color and wins the largest flower/leaf ratio for me. I moved it to more shade to retain better color and the white edges tended to melt away later in the year.

Gilt by Association - This was one of my most photographed Hosta the previous year. This year the leaf canopy grew and it is in more shade.

I'm really looking forward to these two maturing together.

    Glad Rags and Mango Tango

The always wet looking Glossy Ruffles.

A replacement for a dwindler. I hope it was the location and not just a bummer of a plant as I love the look.

    Going For Gold

and a great grower in a poor location - Golden Falls
