Ive always thought its wooden saddle seat style stools, but im curious what others will say.

I had this issue, Yup, it’s saddle stools — but you can find some nicely upholstered ones nowadays.

#sheloveslayouts these stools is almost 15" deep. Is this the narrowest they come?

Pretty sure. Stools need to safely hold up 200# + people. I dont think youre going to get a smaller footprint than that. This is one of the reasons a 15” overhang is recommended for counter seating—if you have stools, a shallower overhang doesnt save any space.

It’s worth remembering that the 15” measurement is at the bottom of the legs. The seat will be closer to 12” so a bit less obvious. But yes, with that non-standard overhang, the back legs will extend beyond your countertop. Anything much smaller would be precarious to sit on. I have seen really basic wooden ones on Amazon with a seat <10” and overall depth <14” but I don’t know how comfortable they would be. I think those are literally called Amazon Basics. Check out Grandin Road for some mid-priced upholstered saddle stools that will measure perhaps a shade less than the one above.

I had the Manchester counter height stools from Pottery Barn in my previous house and they were narrow enough to tuck under the counter and still quite comfortable.

Looks like the price has gone up quite a bit on these. Look for a PB sale or coupon.

Many backless swivel stools do come in under 12 inch round seats.

I have these stools from Grandin Road for my island overhang which is 12" and they are great. Lots of options and comfortable. Tuck just under the counter.

If you don’t have room for the stools i’m not quite sure how you have room for people to sit at these stools? visually they should look ok if the legs of the stool stick out a bit. i’d rather have something stable to sit on!

i have the onda’s from dwr. extremely comfortable but probably not fir everyone style wise. they are only 14” deep so pretty slim by stool standards.

Wow, those Manchester stools are a great option. Nice looking, too.
