Which is the better quality house? Think about the quality of the materials and the workmanship as well. As an investment, you want a solidly built house with good materials and no fiddly features that need fixing and adjustments regularly. Doors, windows and drawers that stick, bind or won't close smoothly will be future repair or replacement costs.

For example, I would prefer a house with older solid wood strip oak flooring over something with prefinished plank flooring. Strip oak can be repaired with replacement pieces laced in and refinished when the plank floor will need to be replaced. Investment properties will need repairs and maintenance and those costs can be significant. Avoid extensive landscaping that require professional upkeep.
