brass (maybe) kitchen cab hardware needs help

I want to restore 1970s kitchen cabinet handles. I think they are brass because of some green-y worn areas. Grime came off well but the protective coating is gone in many places. These are shiny and pretty when wet and I want to restore that look, but I don't want them to look all shiny with new spray gold or brass. (Considered spray painting with oiled brass look, but vetoed that.) So, would you spray their cleaned-up prettiness with a protective coating? What coating? Other ideas?

They are solid brass per the magnet test. Thanks for prompting me to learn about that. So, I'll leave the work to powder coating people if the budget agrees. I have 30+ handles.

So I just checked the 51 hinges on the old cabinets I plan to keep. They are black with age and grime, but the magnets loved them. :-( I suppose the hinges should match the handles in color. Thoughts? (And Big Thanks!)
